transfer case e-brake; what might work?

So, would you just fab up a bracket on top of the pinion area?

Any advantages to that set up vs. the t-case location.

The t-case just seems more complicated but the pinion mount seems to have clearance issues with a gas tank if applicable.

I would add one to each brake rotor on the axle. Seems like an easier solution than the pinion or t-case brake.

Browsing the Wilwood calipers it looks like they're all hydraulic, and some have a provision for a mechanical parking brake (like the one you pictured). I'm just wondering how to use it as only a parking brake. If I cap and seal the hydraulic portion will it form a vacuum in the piston and prevent it from being actualted manually? If I don't cap and seal it, will water get in, rust the piston, and freeze it up? I like the idea, and it looks like it will work, I'm just not sure how to deal with the hydraulic piston.

I.M.O. Summit's reference to hydraulic connection is an error. Read Jegs. http://www.jegs.com/i/Wilwood/950/120-2281/10002/-1

I also came across this, which I think would be better than the wilwood. This caliper has floating pads on both sides.

Spence, i've seen your rig at BHR and i really like it. Haven't seen anything like that for a long time. Always thought those kind of rigs would be great off roaders. Anyway do you have a rear 60? Or pics of the setup?
Unstuck, seen your rig too, and it's AWESOME! But the cadi brakes don't come with return springs or levers from the parts store. So searching the junkyards is a kind of PITA.

Found out Tom Woods has a universal tcase ebrake kit, but has some real drawbacks. First they want you to buy their flange, and i don't care for the way it's mounted. To fit it in my rig i think i'd have to drill it out to fit my flange, then bolt it to the front (instead of behind the flange) between the driveshaft and flange, the way all pro does theirs.

My rear axle is a JK Dana 44. I got it from Mopar Performance. My wife ran off with the camera to work, but I will see if I can get some pics for you later on today when she get home.

Any idea what the cost on that ips caliper is?

I received info back from IPS.
Current pricing on the caliper is $150 ea and are built in both left hand and right hand. They will knock 10% off if ordered in January. Leadtime is 1 week and you must supply the rotor thickness to them so they can make the caliper to match.

They sent me some more tech info. Below are excerpts from the e-mail:

This is a full floating caliper design, its floats on two 1/2" dowels and is spring loaded so that the pads are not in contact with the rotor until you apply the brake. These calipers have over 6 square inches of pad area so they work really well. Both pads are attached, one to the caliper housing and the other to the piston so they do not rattle unlike the Wilwood design. The Pad compound I use is for drag racing so you get max grip staging (cold), and max grip when bring the pro stock car back down from 200MPH (hot). If you have any question give me a call 3O3-252-4481. Mark Johnson

FYI, I'd estimate that the wilwood has approx 3.5 square inches of pad area.

Sounds like it may be overkill for us. We don't need to go from 200-0. We just need to keep from rolling to pass inspection.

The Northern Tool caliper is made by Airheart which is owned by Tolomatic. I bought one a while back and it does look just like the wilwood. Mine is for a 1/4" rotor, but as someone pointed out you can separate the halves and put a spacer in to work with different size rotors. What isn't shown in the picture is the hanger that slides in the grooves next to the bolts and allows the caliper to float. I was hoping to do a pinion brake on an NP205. The All Pro rotor was a little to small of an OD to work with the Tom Woods Flange on my NP205. If you want the dimensions on the All Pro rotor I could take some measurements for you. I'd sell you mine too, if it'll work for you. I designed my own rotor and I'm working with a CNC laser shop right now to get it made.
