Transfer Case Opinions

I will have to replace or rebuild my 35 year old Dana20 case in the Bronco soon. I have looked at the options of rebuild with a HD output shaft and lower gears, nearly as expensive as a Atlas and Stak. I like the idea of a 3 or 4 speed case but they are spendy. I am currently running a 5.0 with C4 auto 4.56 R&P and 37s. Whats your opinion?

John, Go with the Atlas or Stak. Even though the Dana 20 is strong you will not get as strong of a product as the Atlas even with the upgraded output shaft. It would already come with twin sticks and with the Atlas you can clock it up a bit to get the extra belly pan clearances as well.

John, great to see your still rockin the Bronco. If you wheel much and like the skinny pedal at all, I'd to the Atlas. Even a 2 speed is a big upgrade and it takes the "what if" transfer case breakage out of the equation. You've had that Bronc a long time, so a little extra coin is a tribute to it. Now, if you're just running trails and stuff, the rebuilt 20 will prolly be fine.

I'm not sure what Bronco you have but if it is an EB, STaK has one made to fit between the frame rails. Three speed multiple ratio choices.

Maybe we'll get some pictures of Chris and Tara's install in Lemon Joy.

Stak!!! Atlas is cool. But that aluminum housing is incredible. Very durable product. Plus, another big advantage is like MRJ says, they make one designed just for the Boxers.

If you are looking at spending about the same amount, I would definitely recommend calling Summit Machine and getting a quote on a Stak. Stak makes a funny one that will fit between the frame rails of early Broncos and how cool is it to have a three speed transfer case? :chris: I would love to post up pics of the installation of ours, but at this exact moment, my Stak is still residing in the bed of my truck in it's comfy little crate.

Thanks for the input everyone. I will need to find a screeming deal on a sTak mini.
Who's the local dealer, How about you Dusty? Those Yukon shafts and joints are treating me good.

I am not currently a dealer on STAK. I can set you up with a good price on any of the advanced adapters products (Atlas). I can even help you out with the install no matter which route you take.

Glad to hear it on the shafts. Let me know if you need anything else or if you want to join us after turkeyday for Hole in the Rock.
