I have a 2003 expedition with a 4R70W Trans and when shifting from reverse to drive it seems to take a long time. It started doing this within the last month or so, other then that it seems to run strong

Does anyone have an idea of what would cause this or is it just a sign of the Trans going out?

Thanks

assuming trans fluid is properly filled, and that you're talking about when it's warmed up, then yes it is a sign of some trouble. What kind, I couldn't say as I am totally unfamiliar w/Ford transmissions.

Ok so new ???

I replaced the fluid and filter there was no debris in the fluid or pan but the fluid was very dark and smelled burnt.

my transmission shifts great when driving and shifts right into reverse with no hesitation but when I shift into drive if I dont give it gas and just let it idle it wont engage but if I give it gas as soon the rpms get above about 1200 it finally engages.

Is it too late for this trans or are there some other possibilities before I head to the junk yard for a new trans

Mine's done that since I got it ('99 PowerJoke). I was quite concerned about it when I first bought it. I then drove my dad's 2001 F250 and his had the exact same behavior.

I usually only notice anything when I start the truck cold and try to get it moving PDQ. It seems like it has to build pressure to get moving. (still wish I would have bought a stick shift)

My concern is: it just started doing it about 3 weeks ago and seems to be getting worse. I do notice it is worse when cold especially if we leave it outside for more then a few hours
