Trip a month club

I appreciate the feedback. Fall would definitely work better with my build plans... Is there a danger of flash floods on HITR?

I would say the flash flood risk is very low. Most of the trail (98% ?) is open country, there are just a couple of canyon areas and I don't think they would have much drainage from higher ground.

I didn't do any wheeling in June, but I did get out to AF canyon a few times in the wife's rig. Lots of runs planned for August and the upcoming months.

Looking back at the year so far I don't think I've had a month where I didn't go wheeling at least once. This has been a god year for me, usually I'm lucky to get out a couple times in a year.

I started slow, but since April I've been out at least once a month. Having to come back here at the end of the year and fess up on the months I missed has been a definite motivator.

Don't know if you saw on my rig thread, planning a trip to the Rubicon October 20-26th. The end date (26th) is not set in stone, just gives flexibility. So far we are meeting 9 rigs up there and 5 are driving up with me from the San Diego area. You and anyone else is more than welcome to join us. I think the 9 are local so they are just doing a weekend run but I plan to run it both ways, take my time to enjoy scenery, camp, fish...all of the above! It's my post deployment trip so I gotta make it worth it!

Looking back at the last year I think I did a fantastic job of staying on the trail at least once a month. I did more wheeling this year than I have ever done probably more wheeling trips between January and October than all the wheeling I have ever done and I really mean that. Hopefully I can continue that trend next year.

Edit: Just looked at my previous post and I had already posted this. I won't delete it because I really mean it.

Despite all that happened this year, from my wife turning out to be a whore to pouring 300 degree cooking oil on my hands and foot, I've managed to get out on a camping trip every month but March and October. Not sure about November, not looking good, but FYTO4 on the Winter Solstice is a for sure.

Awesome thread, if only for the ideas. Great to see the lists of trips, hopefully I can get out more.

Do winter weekend trips to the cabin count? There's a whole lotta 4-wheelin' involved. Even strapping out stuck vehicles and stuff. (a blazer with chained up 35's and 2200lbs of ballast can easily pull out a stuck eXcursion, also chained up with 35's).

With all the snowmobiling in the winter, and other family trips competing for weekends, getting the jeep out once a month is pretty ambitious, every other month keeps me happy (plus driving it several times a week helps).

While most trips have been close to home I've been doing a pretty good job going every month this year. I'd like to head to Moab over thanksgiving weekend and the 'freeze your tail off' is one I never hope to miss :D

So I've done a great job of getting out at least once a month (spent 55 nights camping already so far this year!). I've done pretty much everything I had on my list in my first post, plus some others. But I've done a really poor job of posting trip reports - the other half of SSS's initial Trip-a-month club requirement. Can't really remember, but I think I only posted three or four reports this year.

Nov - Dec plans... This time of year, I'm getting out a lot - coyote hunting. But those trips don't really make good trip report material and I never want to say exactly where I've been.

But I did spend three nights in Beef Basin earlier this month (non-hunting trip), and I'm heading out later today for three more nights in the Henry's (semi non-hunting trip, might kill a few coyotes if I feel like it, might not bother...). So November is covered - maybe I ought to at least post some pics from the Beef Basin trip though.

For December, I'll get in at least 300 miles of dirt out coyote hunting. Don't have any over-nighters planned as of yet though. No chance of making the FYTO trip I'm afraid, the weekend before Christmas is a non-starter for me. I "might" be able to sneak off for a half day coyote hunt that weekend, but I'll be doing all kinds of family stuff around town.

It's been a good year! Already thinking about next year, I really want to try and get in a couple more group trips, and I'd like to get more trip reports posted. Or at least post some pictures from more trips when I don't have time to write a report.

I love your trip reports dave. Hoping to join you on a few trips in 2013.

Ive made it out every month this year, and because of that it's been the best year of my life yet
I'm going to continue the goal for 2013 as well.
