Awesome to say the least... :D

The group met at Tibble Fork and went through the mandatory Forest Service volunteer process (you know lightning, hardhats, and snakes, etc ;)).

We followed Ranger Randy up to Forest Lake where EZRhino (and Russ from Amos Rents) saved the day with a chainsaw as Randy's was taken out of the FS TJ. The fence was a complete mess, almost its entire length (~150ft) was in disrepair with much of it in/on the ground. For the next two hours we dragged out the old fence and reassembled using what was good from the old and new material cut from deadfall in the area. Through the process many other users stopped by to say thanks, watch for a minute or even help (a couple ATV guys parked their quads and helped drag material to the fence :) ).

From there our groups split up a bit.The NAXJA and SLC4x4 guys headed up to Forest Lake, and a small group of us went to a point further up the canyon to add a small fence to an area that OHV guys were going around the blocked trail in the vegitation. We spent the next couple hours digging 30" holes in the rocky soil :p trying to put in the fence poles, we got all the poles done and were literally beat. Randy the Ranger wanted to go play around in the Rockgarden (not in the FS TJ) so he hopped in with me and we played around in the Rockgarden for a minute... He know wants sliders and a locker for his personal rig :D

Many thanks to all those that showed up, Brad R. and the SLC4x4 crew, all the NAXJA clan (you guys really TURNED out), Vinny from Teraflex, all U4WDA members and most of all the members of RME who really made the day! I can't begin to tell you how stoked Randy was about the turnout (27 rigs) and how much progress we made. He is going to show all the pictures he took to his office to help alleviate some of the bad "reps" we have in the canyon.

And last but not least thanks to Ranger Randy Dearden, he is literally the best thing we have going for us in the canyon... not only his he an OHV enthusiast himself, but he is also more than willing to put in alot of time working with us. Randy was key to getting a good word in the office about the U4WDA and all out member clubs. His goodwill is leading us to further projects up the canyon (trail adoptions, signage, etc)

THANKS!!!

Thanks for coordinating this Kurt and to all those that made it out. It was good to meet new folks and to see local clubs putting forth a joint effort. We need more projects like this. Randy is the coolest FS employee I've ever met, glad he has a clue and is part of the "team".

good times, good times! So Curt, did the U4WA officially adopt the trail?? What a great idea and a way to keep us "IN" with the FS!! Thanks to all who helped! What a team effort! Those holes we dug by the rock garden were quite stubborn!! Do you know if they need help finishing that fence??

thanks

Thanks for the good time. It was my first time helping out the U4WDA and to AFC. I enjoyed meating new people and working to keep trails open. Count the SLC 4x4 club to come and help in the future.

Badger and I were up there today and sad to say, the fence didn't live long. It looked like it was somewhat accidental..... although farther up the trail there were tracks in the snow all over the hill side :mad2:
