Overhead console. Anyone have one? Do you hate it? Like it? I like that it puts stuff up and out of the way, but still within easy reach. However, I'm worried about bumping my head on the trail.

I'm liking the 2 position one for a CB and a CD player, but wondering about head clearance. The 2nd one would only mount one of the units, but that'd be better than nothing and I think that would clear my head better.

I was out in the Jeep with the tape measure. 4" is huge hanging down there.

BC, what did you do in Brett's rig? Been awhile since I've seen it, I can't remember??

I too would like to integrate something like that in my Cruiser.

It was something like my old Jeep. Brett's just had one spreader, so I had to hang brackets off of that. On my old Jeep (see crappy pic), I used two spreaders, and mounted things in between them. Kept eveything up high enough to not bump your noggin on, and was out of the weather as well.

Marc - had one in my yellow TJ, for oh anout 2 weeks, hated it every second, used it for the CB in the back and the stereo in the front. Biggest down fall was how far down it hangs when open (and closed for that matter), and that its so solid mounted that the stereo always would skip with a cd. It says dont have open whie driving, but how the hell else can you access the cd player?

I eventually gave it away, its also so wide that if you add to the cage the overhead roll bars are way out of measurement with it in.

And yes if your taller than about 5'5" you will hit your head on it. Im at 5'11" and whacked it a few times.

The theory is sound but the setup IMHO sucks ass.

If your looking for the cleaned up more space look, I went ahead and put the stereo back in stock location, got the SPOD for my switches and air guage, then put the all in one Cobra CB in. Drilled a hole for the CB wire, mounted the "brain" to the steering colum cross member and leave the cb in the console when not on the trail.
