I searched the forum but could not find any help. I have a 77 CJ7 with a 304, running 35s, dana 44 front 12 bolt rear both locked, and a three speed manual. I am not a fan of three footin it, so am considering an auto trans. I have found a T400 with dana 20, and am wondering how well this will work. It came out of a mid 80s Comando. What i am worried about is the length of the thing. I am lifted a bit, SOA with 4" lift springs. I know it is stout, it will rob hp but will it be too long?

My old 77 cj7 came with the th400 stock. It had quadratrac originally and I swapped in a d300. The AA adapter for the d300 was 4-5 inches long which made my rear driveline 17 inches long. I had about 3 inches of lift and the rear driveline had a 22 degree angle (with a CV joint). The angle made it hard to avoid vibrations especially when I tried a scout d44 rear that had 2 inches of pinion offset from center. I would imagine that your d20 with the factory adapter would be shorter than what I had.

you could always go with a TF727 (having a brain fart but I think that the right number) or a TF999.
