Turbo Fiber Discs

I was looking around this site for a carbide tipped metal cutting blade and stumbled upon THESE. Anyone ever seen them before? I've used my share if various grinding and sanding discs, but I've never seen these. What are they primarily used for? Surface prep prior to painting? In place of a flap disc? They are available in 40, 60, 80, and 120 grits.

I've used the 4 1/2 inch ones.
They're like a flap disk and work good for surface prep and deburring.
The fine ones leave a real smooth finish.

With the design of the backer, they look like they'd be more flexible than a flap disc. I think I'll order some anyway. For the price, even if they don't work, I'm not out much. I've got some bumper/carrier/slider projects coming up to test them out on.

These discs are incredible. 5" diameter 36 grit with the 4.5" flexible rubber backer (Dewalt part). They can take a weld down flat and smooth it out very nicely much faster than a flap disc, and they last a long time. I get em from Home Depot.

Those (or similar) is what I use, but I get mine from Airgas. Even though the 36 grit does leave a surprisingly smooth finish, I might try some of those in the original post just for final smoothing or whatever. Might be nice, might just stick with sanding flap discs...
