What axle? D44 or 60? I ran CTM's in a front d44 for over 7 years and NEVER had an issue. I attribute the success of that front axle to the warn shafts and ctm combo.

For my current D60 build, I'm looking into the Longfield joints as their price seems to be pretty reasonable and I've seen what abuse they can take even in a D44. But even the newer spicer 60 joints seem pretty hard to beat with their new design. Not to mention super cheap cheaper.

$50/joint is cheap in a relative sense :D and they do seem to hold up to "normal" use.

Knowing what axle you're asking about would help.

lookin for a good bang for the buck what do the CTMs cost

CTMs seemed to be the most expensive when I was deciding to move away from the D44 joint size, but they'll hold up better than any axleshaft. 300M is some pretty burly stuff. One shaft loss is cheaper than any cost difference in the axlejoints in my opinion. I'd get the best joint I could if I was running the smaller axle joint as axleshafts aren't cheap. I'm not sure if the Warn shafts are still the coolest shafts available or not? (that might tell you how old my knowledge is on the subject?) I'm sure there's quite a few threads on PBB that discuss this ad nauseum?

Not that you want/need to hear this, but this is exactly why I went with a 60 vs. a D44 or whatever. You'll put some cash into the D44 to make almost as strong or slightly stronger than a stock D60 when you can buy the stock 60 for $1000 or less. I'd imagine shafts will run you $500-600 and joints will run you at least $100 per side. You've got $700-800 in your D44 in shafts and joints and I've got that much in my whole axle.

I ran the Longfield joints in my D44 with Warn shafts for a couple of years. Never broke a joint, but I did break a couple of the Warn 27 spline outers. After 2 years, the Longs showed quite a bit of wear in the crosses and caps, even with greasing every 3-4 runs. I recently upgraded to Yukon Hardcore 30 spline outers (I believe the Hardcore line is the old Warn stuff) and CTM's. The CTM's are more expensive than the Longfields, but I'm hoping to get better life out of them.

Longfields are great. Ran them in my car for years and never had any issues. Plus Bobby Long is a great guy and very easy to deal with
