INSTRUCTIONS (READ FIRST) !!

The U4WDA wants to build a vehicle to raffle off!! It will be passed around from shop to shop, each adding goodies and modifications as it goes. Our objective is to build a reliable trail rig (not a buggy per se) but something capable of doing nearly any trail in Moab; let's say all the 4+ trails and maybe Pritchett, etc.

What we are curious about is what vehicle would you want? Which type of vehicle would you want to buy raffle tickets for? The type of modifications we want to have could be any/all of the following: 35" tires, a respectable lift/clearance, winch, rock sliders, tube stuff on front/back, cage, proper axle gearing/low gears, possible double t-case, etc. For the most part, we are after a dual-solid axle'd rig (so in the case of an IFS rig like a Toyota, consider a SAS paramount).

You can vote for more than one RIG so PLEASE just vote for your favorite TWO vehicles. Actually, this isn't so much as "which is your favorite rig/" as " which would make the best raffle vehicle".

As an addendum: Since this is our first vehicle we don't have the dough to build an 03 Rubicon with every conceivable add-on known to man. We need to start small/simple and if this works out like it's supposed to, each year we do it the vehicle will get newer and newer as well as better and better!! However, that doesn't mean we are going to start with 'ol uncle Herb's flattie that comes with an engine hanging by a rope from a tree in his front yard, a box full of rusty parts in the back, etc. It will start life as a running, reliable, licensable truck and just get better from there.

I voted for "Other" or a Ford Bronco--as lond as it's an older Bronco--not no stinkin' tiny bronco II or full-size crap--the old ones. Anyone ever seen Mount Logan Off-Road's bronco? That things bad...

Of course my first choice of "Other" would be a Toyota FJ40 or FJ45 shorty pickup!!! :D

But of course, I'll buy raffle tickets for ANYTHING!!!

toyota truck (runners are like fj's too heavy) trucks got the wheelbase to. A favorite in moab.
The older jeep's have parts galore in the aftermarket. easy but possibly spendy........
Toyotas have been built out of the JY for years, chebbies, waggies, and go :D

I voted for the YJ. Do a SOA, run 33's, swap in a Scout 44 & re-gear it and you'll have a very capable, classic, open-top Jeep. :)

Greg,

Great suggestion.

Lazurus: Scouts are cool!! I've always liked them a lot. They come from the factory already set up with all the drivetrain you need, with the exception of a tall lift, gears and lockers. The trouble is finding one that is in all round good condition, and isn't rusting away. Point taken.

The Jeep models are winning... I guess stuff's pretty easily available and I would imagine decently priced for them... But wouldn't it be cool to see something OTHER than a Jeep? Jeeps are EVERYWHERE. Ya, pertty much everything has been done before on pretty much every vehicle, but do you see 50 of them EVERYDAY (and that's just the ones driving around, not to mention the ones that are parked FOR SALE on every corner...)? How's about a little bit of originality here? Just a thought.

I picked two, but after reading some responses, I think I would switch one choice. My selections were Toyo Truck cause they are cool, esp the early '80 body styles (think RockLogic's new parts runner)

My other choice CJ/YJ cause you can pick up a decent running vehicle (think '89YJ w/4cyl fuel injected) pretty cheap.

However, I would definately buy a raffle ticket for a built up sami in good condition. A hard top model would be a total bonus.
