U4WDA Service Project Saturday September 27th

U4WDA

Utah 4-Wheel Drive Association
If you aren't going to the RME NPLD project,

http://www.rockymountainextreme.com/showthread.php?t=57571

Then you are invited to attend the U4WDA group project in American Fork Canyon. Join U4WDA and several local clubs in a project to support the Forest Service and the nationwide service event, National Public Lands Day.

The project will start at Tibble Fork Reservoir at 9:00 AM, and we should be done before 4:00 PM.

Every volunteer will receive a free NPLD t-shirt thanks to U4WDA sponsors. In addition, each volunteer will receive a free one-day pass valid for one year to gain access to any National Park, BLM or Forest Service Fee Area.

Entrance to the American Fork Canyon Fee Area will also be free to all volunteers!

Please join us for this fun and important project. Media will be on hand to cover the story, so we need as many volunteers as possible to get the press coverage we need for the 4x4 cause.

Important Information

Wear PANTS and SHOES (no shorts, flip-flops or sandals). This is a requirement of the Forest Service.

Bring work gloves (cheap gloves are available for $2 at Harbor Freight).

Bring plenty of water and a lunch.

Please carpool to reduce traffic congestion in the canyon!

I realize that most of the RME crew were busting it out at 5 Mile Pass... but for those who made it to the AF Canyon project... Here are a few pictures...

Good job to everyone who participated. The sad thing is that we had 45+ volunteers, but at least that many rigs rolled right on by as we were working. Including a group of about 15 land rovers. Suck.

I didn't get a photo of it, I just saw it as I baja'd out of the canyon. I'm sure someone from U4X4C will have a photo. The sign itself turned out great.

Forest Lake Sign

The forest service was up there when we put the sign up and nothing was said. so do I need to get another sign made? was the Schaffer Trail up on the upper kiosk ok?

It is very cool, it turned out great!

Unfortunately, it'll have to be uprooted and moved. Perpendicular, not parallel was the requirement from the FS.

Those guys wouldn't have said anything. It'll be ok, but it should be perpendicular. They have a 4" thick binder on sign regulations. The closer to the regs, the better for the higher ups.

Somebody will probably knock it over.

And we'll put it back up. :)

dumb question.....

Wouldn't the signs have been better if the lower one said Shaffer Fork, and the upper one on the kiosk said Forest Lake? That's what I had in mind when I proposed to Joe McFarlane, back in '07, when we built the kiosks and he OK'ed it that way. Either way, sounds like the FS is OK with it as it currently sits. I was just thinking the sign that says "Forest Lake" should be up near the lake, and the sign that says "Shaffer Fork" should be at the head of the trail and not the end.
