Ugh... ARB problem/question

So my air locker takes forever to engage when it doesn't get used often and I found out why. I also found out why there's been gear lube accumulating in the engine bay around the air compressor  I installed a second battery tray today and had to re-route the air line that's when I noticed it was full of gear lube. I'm guessing I have an internal o-ring failure (although doubtful maybe a plugged breather).

Would capping off the end of the hose and not using the ARB for now be a dumb idea? Would hooking up the air line only when I need the ARB be a dumb idea? I really don't want to rip out the front diff and perform a rebuild at the moment but I don't want to risk damaging the ARB either. Will oil leaking past the infamous o-ring damage the locker? I'm guessing it was an installation error ever since I plumbed it in there has been a small amount of oil accumulation I think using the locker often in Moab made the majority of the mess.. Thoughts?

Edit: This is on my 98 Land Cruiser if that helps.

Put an oil separator kit on the locker. Fwiw you can pull the diff out of a 100 in under an hour, two new o-rings and you could be back in business in a couple of hours.

I vote breather hose as well. If your o-rings are bad, the compressor will continue to run after you engage the locker. Not sure on the Toyota axles, but on some of the Dana axles, you need to make a notch in the bearing bore to allow oil to drain, otherwise oil can creep up the air line.

Mine has always had a little oil come back out the silenoid. Usally after ive been using my lockers. I added a purge valve and it let's me blow the line out after using them.

Great info everybody. Thanks for the help  I'm feeling a lot better about it. I saw the oil and expected the worst.

Once engaged I haven't had the compressor kick back on even so it must be holding pressure. I'm going to check the breather asap.

Rottenbelly, do you know the manufacturer of that part? Seems like a pretty good idea.
