Uintahs camping expedition

Maybe expedition is too strong a word, but I did air down my tires so it's good enough. :)

Hooked up with Josh/TRD270 Friday morning and headed for the hills. Headed for Whitney Reservoir, we decided to take the south route in through Gold Hill/FS 081. The road was rough and slow going, I'd say high clearance was definitely necessary but 4WD shouldn't be needed unless it's super wet. It took us a little over an hour to make our way through it to the lake. We grabbed the first campsite we came across with a great view of the valley and got busy enjoying ourselves. The entire west side of the lakeshore was covered by sheep, and they were loud. Luckily the herders were driving them off, and they were gone by Saturday. Sixstringsteve and Chocflip wandered in around 11pm, and we enjoyed a campfire before wandering off to bed a couple hours later.

Saturday morning TJDukit found us, which was lame but we did invite everybody so I guess that's what we get. I heard rumors that Ozzy was in attendance but didn't get to meet him. After a lazy morning we all wandered towards the lake for an afternoon of fishing and boating before pulling up and heading out just in front of the rain. The weather was great all weekend, the bugs were nearly nonexistent and the lake wasn't TOO crowded, so all in all I declare the expedition a success, even if Brian caught fish and I didn't.

I only took a couple photos, but Steve's cameras were prominent all day Saturday, so here in about six months maybe we'll get a video?

It really was exactly what I needed. I ended up sleeping in on Saturday until around 11am, by then my dog had already found a way to weasel himself out of the annex, I'll know how to block that off better next time. Campfire was great, didn't get any rain until we were on our way out, even then it was minimal.

Had to strap up and pull out a dummy in a new Dodge who decided it would be a great idea to back down to the lakeshore, on a muddy wet slope! I goofed and didn't use enough strap length and so I almost went into the lake too, Montero to the Hummer rescue! After doubling up the strap length I was able to yank him out.

Camped and met some great people! Hope I can do it again soon.

x2, it was just what I needed as well. I'm so glad you could make it, it wouldn't have been the same with out you. It was nice to finally meet ozzy702 and his family. I think I'm ready for another trip this upcoming weekend.

BTW, Beer was no problem wandering around camp in the morning, he is a really really well behaved dog and he is always welcome.

Just for you, I'll get it done in 5 months, you can hold me to that. I'm about 7 videos behind right now (not including review videos).

Great hanging with Kevin as always, nice to meet the wife and new edition. As always I was able to watch Steve setup camp in the dark, nice to meet you Chance. Brian wish you could have found us Friday night.... we'll have to get at least one more adventure planned before you depart. Kevin just needs to get the smelly yota running.

Sorry I somehow missed the one and only road that also happens to be very obscure from the north side of the lake that heads around the other side.

I really needed this weekend though it was great to get a way. Everything was great until I had packed up this morning and was ready to head out only to be welcomed by a dead battery. Luckily I had some new neighbors who were kind enough to give me a jump.

I'm gonna make it a point to get out with some of you at least one more time before I leave for Korea.

It was entertaining following behind it on gold hill road. Handful of times I thought that sucker was going over, but just popped back down and continued bouncing a long.
I thought the same thing on the way out.

Pull a spring out of the pack and also air down the trailer tires to about 20 psi . It makes a huge difference .
Great report . I gotta get out in the mountains sometime .

Not sure but I think there's only two leaves in the little shorty pack that's on there now. I did mean to air down the donuts and forgot on the way in and the way out.

It does not. I figure if I get a flat I'll lash a log to the axle and keep going. It might even improve the way it rides.
