I loved reading the specs, kind of cool!
Wish I'd known when this came through. I'm a fan of the SP 4449 and have seen it a few times since it ran the American Freedom Train in 1975/76. I have a friend that spent 6 months touring with it in the 80s. Would have been great to see live steam running through the Tooele Valley. Awesome, thanks for sharing those pics...

I personally know, and have worked with Doyle McCormack in the SP Brooklyn yard and Albina yard in Portland, OR. My very first trip firing back in 1998 was on an old RG locomotive and Doyle was my engineer. SP 4449 was always impressive to see running.

We caught it about 40 minutes later as it passed through Erda, but it was just a fly by. We should have gone down to Stockton and seen it standing still. It was still cool for me and my family to see. Our kids may not ever see a steam locomotive again on a main line.

BTW cool link! I noticed the other day that I only saw steam coming out of it as it passed, not black smoke (which it would have if it was running coal), I was wondering if it had been converted to propane/NG or diesel. The link answered the question for me (#5 oil).
