UPS sucks!

Just like it states, and I will never use them to ship any items or RECIEVE any items from them ever again.

A guy calls me up last week and states that he wants to buy an item, but he needs it soon because he is leaving to go home (Canada) and wants to take it with him to save on shipping costs, etc. Apparently being sealed, he won't have any issues in customs either.

I tell him not a problem, I have them in stock - it will go out tomorrow. He thanks me, and we hang up.

Thursday at about 430 I get a call from him and he is raging mad. Apparently the UPS driver opened the package to see what was in side, he actually said 'I want to see what is inside' and rips it open before my customer could tell him no. So I appologize and hang up.

I then call UPS and submit a report. They tell me they will have the supervisor from that location call me back before end of business. This morning some lady calls up and starts defending the driver, stating my customer allowed him to open it, this is a seasoned driver and he wouldn't do such a thing. During which I said with the US mail that is a felony and in all the years I have used UPS I have never heard of such a thing - who does he think he is. That goes back and forth and then I said so my customer is a liar and I'm an idiot for using UPS? She said yes and hung up on me!

Now I'm really irritated, so I call back their 800 number and file another complaint. I was very cordial, knowing this guy on the phone was not the reason for the call. The person on the other end of the phone assures me that wasn't a supervisor and he will make sure this is handled and have a supervisor call back within the hour.

About 45 minutes some other lady calls back and immediately starts yelling at me, using foul language and asking who the h*ll I thought I was! At this point I haven't said anything other than 'good morning this is Wayne'. At that point I have no idea who is calling me. It could be a customer or etc.

Needless to say, FedEx will be getting all of my business now. They have been after me for the past 6 months or so to start using them, even giving me a nice discount if I would. I did not have a discount with UPS, nor would they give me one. But I also did not have a problem paying full price on shipping, either.

Sounds fishy... I can't really envision a UPS driver saying "I want to see what's inside", and opening a package. :ugh: I could envision a wife or child being curious and opening it though. I don't see why it would be a problem getting it across the border. Now that it's not sealed, they can look inside to see that nothing illegal is entering/leaving.

I too have had bad experiences with UPS and will no longer use them. They absolutely destroyed a package I sent and dealing with UPS insurance was bad enough to warrant never using them again. Meanwhile, FedEx has always been timely and packages I have received tend to be in better shape with FedEx than UPS.

I used to work nights as a package handler for UPS and have learned not to ship w/ them:ugh: I could not believe some of the employee's there kicking, stomping on, hitting, and throwing boxes:mad2: If work was that bad for them they should have just quit instead of beating up peoples stuff:-\

USPS>FedEX>UPS

I haven't had any real bad experiences with UPS, but I like FedEX better, and I prefer USPS.

I wish USPS would kick it in the rear and get their tracking system in place then UPS, DHL and Fed Ex will start to handle their customers a lot better knowing that they have one more competitor in the market.

I am in the international freight forwarding business so before anyone has a chance to say the gov can't compete, think again, online tracking in this day and age is the natural evolution of shipping and if any entity wants to be successful a good IT infrastructure must be in place and that includes shipping.

Imagine sending them certified letters by mail and have the confirmation of the delivery instantly emailed to you with a signed original in the mail to follow.

It is only a matter of time.

If USPS would kick it in the rear I would use them almost exclusively for domestic deliveries.

Ganted you will have weight limits in place so after that I would say FE would be next.

This and cost are the reasons I won't use USPS. Their only garuntee is 'that it will get there'. Might not be next week, or even next year, but it will arrive.

I've had more problems with FedEx than UPS, but after this little fiasco, I will never utilize UPS again.

My experiences with UPS are they damage more packages than FedEx by far but they pay out their claims, FedEx rarely damages packages but when they do they do not pay out their claims (and our packages are ALWAYS insured). As an example, we were doing a GPS promotion for Ford Motor Co. a year or two ago, we would ship literally thousands of units a day. These were, at the time, $499.99 from anywhere you could find them, they would not pay us more than $100 for their admitted mistakes and damaged packages. If we have a choice we use UPS because they atleast pay what we insure them for, but mos thte time we use FedEx because our rate with them is a ton better and the customer usually just wants the cheapest rate possible.

I agree with RockMonkey, this sounds odd...I have never heard of a driver tearing open a package, or even caring what was inside a package, secondly I think you have pissed someone off because UPS supervisors have always been awesome to work with...I dunno what to say.

I've had FedEX and UPS drivers ask me what was in a package before. They never tried to open it though. They tend to get curious when it's small and uber heavy.

Any shipper will damage your packages. Shipping is a rough business. Stuff gets loaded in a trailer floor to cieling and then the packages beat each other up for whatever hundreds of miles they travel.

90% of all damaged packages are due to insufficient packaging.

I call BS on the driver opening a package like that unless there was some kind of relationship, and even then, I have doubts this story is true. I would have been fired if I ever had done that. That being said, I did have regular conversations with customers with common interests, who sometimes showed me what they were working on. It does add some color the day when you deal nothing but packages, a different stop every 3 minutes for 10 hours a day.

Sorry you had a bad experience but at least we have a new target for the day for everyone to beat up on. Everyone, join in, please...

yeah, the driver that used to deliver to my house while I was building my buggy was super interested in it. I was always in my garage when he came by and he would always check it out. kinda fun when you get to know the drivers :D

If my customer did allow the UPS driver to open this package, why would he call me furious about him opening it? What motive does he have?? I've shipped items to him before, why all of a sudden would he make something like this up?

Why would he call you at all? It's not your fault UPS opened his package. That's like me calling Best Buy all pissed that my son unwrapped his Xbox 3 days before Christmas.
