That's what I have friends for and usually where I am off-roading I would not think about taking my tow rig in there that why I have a jeep.

A few opinions on 2wd.

1. Ideal rock crawling season in Utah is Sept-May. Snow storms on the way home from trips is common. This gets dangerous really fast.
2. Recovery. Even taking it up fire roads would be questionable in 2wd.
3. Parking lots. A lot of the parking lots we park in are very loose.

I can't say specifically, by I know a dealer that took in a 2006 Dodge mega cab Cummins and a manual transmission two weeks ago.

Yup, I wouldn't do 2wd unless it had a VERY heavy utility type bed. Too many times I've used 4wd when towing, whether it was in the parking area or snowy drives home or in recovery (not necessarily my rig). If you have NEVER needed 4wd when towing, and/or you are comfortable being "that guy" when you are stuck in the parking lot or in the ditch, then go for it.
