Using tow straps (the wrong way)

Good grief. Two people died. Innocent bystanders from what I can see. Amazing how some of you can be so crass. Have some respect.

Just like the spectators at ralley races. Cars come sliding around the corner at top speed. People reaching out to touch them as they go by. People need to learn to stand back a little.

It's only an accident if it wasn't preventable, this was a preventable incident.

Seriously guy??, maybe people will say the same about you someday, given your display of disrespect this is very possible....

I hope if I was ever dumb enough to do something like that and die from it that people would say the same thing about me. Anyone who knows me knows my standing on things like this. There wasn't one thing in that scenario that wasn't dumb. In the marines whenever we have to do winch or strap recovery we make damn sure every body is well out of the way. You're dumb enough to be in that situation, you're not getting any pity from me. Whenever were out on the trail and I see A recovery going on, I get pretty heated when people are standing right next to it and let them know to get out of the way. I just say last week I think the video Teraflex posted about the guy stuck on the beach and those 2 guys standing in between the two vehicles strapping. The guys rear end comes apart and the strap clothes lines the 2 guys. Luckily for them they didn't get seriously injured. Idiots! If something like that ever happens to me go right ahead and post it all over on how dumb I was as well.

Not often wrong. Never quite right.

I hope if I ever witness a thing like that, that I'll have a little more presence of mind than to stand around looking at mangled bodies and wait for somebody else to do something.

My intention with my following comment is not meant to offend, but I can't agree with anyone that calls the spectators that were killed dumb or idiots. Those comments are a little off base in my opinion.

To be dumb means you know better and do something stupid anyway. Most of us in this sport have been educated on the danger of being around a strap or cable under tension. That is all thanks to the country we live in, the sport we enjoy, and being somewhat educated in these things. I am fairly certain that video wasn't shot in the grand USA. I imagine the event had nowhere near the safety emphasis we see in events we attend (that are well organized anyway).

wheelewagon admits to being a Marine and has been trained to do recovery safely. If he were there, standing that close to the vehicles in that situation, he would be dumb or an idiot because he has been educated on the danger and risk. But to call the unfortunate souls that lost their lives anything other than tragic casualties, is very misguided in my book.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I personally don't see any humor or amusement in the tragic incident, but if others do, that is their choice. However, it does sadden me to see society stoop to that level of disregard for human life, and lack of compassion for others.

Teach your family, friends, and wheeling partners of the risks of not doing proper recovery, and maybe you can prevent this type of tragedy from becoming very, very personal.

Very well said. Thanks.

Even the Drivers seem to lack a basic understanding of Geometry. Terrible example of a Recovery. Sad indeed the man closest was very young and missed the chance to learn from this sad event.

The thing that floors me is the lack of urgency everyone had around them. "Well there's something you don't see every day. Somebody should come and help them while I video it."
