This past weekend was the first annual Fall Crawl for the Utah 4x4 Club. We headed down from Salt Lake thursday night to run Skull Canyon and Wild West on friday, then on to Manara Wash on saturday.
I had run Wild West with Evan and Craig this summer but was unable to do Skull Canyon do to time restraints. We ran Skull first. And Cody is right that trail is killer. It was slightly muddy in spots, making for some slippery rocks. I had the proudest moment of my 4wd life by running the extreme left line on the exit. Evan told me he had only seen comp buggies do it, and the rest of the group got denighed. Toot, Toot. (gotta blow my own horn since Andy was filming the scenery while I was running it )
Wild West was fun as well, with the exception of Ladd's Latter getting the best of me again. 100" is the wrong wb for that thing.
Manara Wash on saturday was a wet slippery experience. It rained friday night ensuring that my a$$ would be wet all day. Then rained again as we started the trail, just to reinforce that this was going to be interesting. Manara is a wash bottom that changes with every storm. You never know what you are going to get. This time it was wet, slippery, and deep. Evan commented that he had never seen the waterfalls this large. I had the most fun in the narrows. These are mini sandstone slot canyons that you try, and notice I sad try, to straddle. Full width rigs did just fine but I am narrow and it made for some fun sideway action. I put her on her side several times as Dean and Todd gave me directions. I made it, unassisted through both sections. I was pretty happy with my little jeeper. I had never gunned it laying on by side before, kinda fun...
Anyway.... Photos and Movies Here
