Vinyl fencing

Avoid Best Vinyl. They were 100% incompetent when they did mine a couple years ago. It took them over a year to finish the job, and the only reason they did was because we hadn't paid them.

If you do decide to use Best Vinyl, DO NOT PAY ANYTHING UP FRONT!

Our fence looks okay, but only because I had them redo several parts of it until they got it right, and I didn't pay them until it was done to my satisfaction.

I use to install vinyl fence when work was slow. It is very easy to install, save some money and install it yourself. The hardest part is setting the posts. Most companies will even set your posts for you and you can do the rest. Last time I talked to vinyl connection in SLC they were letting homeowners borrow templates to help them set there posts.

That is the part I worried about. I am about a year out, but this is the way I think I will go.

I need a fence, but the cost of this stuff is crazy. I woudl consider doing it myself, but the ground I have is rediculously rocky and I setting those posts in that soil is probably a job best left for someone with the right tools and experience.

As a reference, I dug a parking strip out that was 10 foot by 2 foot, and 4 inches deep. It took me about 12 hours...and I even did half of it in the rain so as to make the ground softer.

I would like to have mine done by spring and really don't want to set poles in frozen ground:-\ Really don't want to do anything but my generous parents bought my kids an above ground pool:rolleyes: I'm not looking forward to the water bill either...

I need a 92" gate to finish my fence off finally. It's only been almost 10 years since I started my fence.:D

I've got a section of fence that I was thinking of using vinyl. Those that have had it done, what did you pay per foot?

A lot. Seems like it was around $25 per foot. Mine is two different colors of not-white though, so that increases the cost. The gates are very expensive too.

Exactly, my ground sucks. I brought in 6" of soil for my yard when I did sod, I also paid someone to come trench my yard for me for my sprinklers. He was able to trench it down to 18" but said my yard was extremely hard and rocky. There's no way I'd want to try and do it on my own without the proper tools and know-how. I'd rather pay someone and have a finished product that looks good.

I put about 80 feet in last year.
It wasn't bad, and doing it myself saved a lot of cash.

DEFINITELY rent an auger. Digging the holes is obviously the worst part and the auger saved HOURS.

Once the poles are set, the rest goes FAST.

My fence turned out much straighter than the neighbor who paid to have his installed. :-\

I'm renting a Bobcat with a freakin' hammer attachment. There are HUGE rocks. It's about time for "Fence, Wind-Resistant Version Mk2". Apparently 4" gaps between slats aren't enough :D

Setting the poles is gonna suck. :(

Times two on this. They suck balls. One of their salesmen lives next door. He did the fence with his crew at the time, for the guy who's property buts up to my yard. Every single spacing in the whole fence is different. I mean one is five foot of slats. Next, eight foot, etc etc. Most arrogant guy I've ever met.
Then he says to my son. Oh your cousin is the one who thinks he knows how to do fencing. (TJ Dyer) Hell, TJ was one of the most picky guys I've ever seen doing fence. He quit because he couldn't compete with these hacks. He took longer, used better materials. But all people saw was that Best Vinyl was cheaper.
Sh*t, TJ stood on my back porch and showed me ten things wrong with his job from 50 feet away. Never said a word to the jackass that was bad mouthing him.

Don't people in Toooolie use explosives to create their fence post holes?

Also, bonus points for using the militant like descriptor for your next fence project.

hhehe, a couple lenghts of those trenching charges from WWII would work GREAT!!! line 'em up and let 'em off. Instant digability. :D

The wind out here ripped off siding, shingles, and destroyed many a fence. As much as I'd like a solid fence, I don't know. It would need some serious reinforcement. :D
