Visiting from Alaska

Names Tyson,
Carl from Teraflex and a guy in an orange LandRover both pointed me to this site.

I'm in the military down here in SLC for two weeks for training. Would love to hook up with some local wheelers for dinner or a beer. Possibly hit a trail this coming weekend. (8th and 9th)

I'm the VP of Alaska Extreme Fourwheelers... Drive a 88ish XJ. 5" lift, 35's, detroits f&R in 30/44. Did a chop/tailgaite mod a few years back. Been wheelin' for over 15 years.

Give me a shout or let me know if anyone is headed to any trails.... Anywhere in Utah... I'd love to hit Moab but will take what I can get.

Here's a pic of my rig in AK.
Later.

That would have been Carl. ;)

Fixed it. Sorry about that. I'm horrible with names. I'm proud of myself for remembering your name started with a C.

Thanks for the invite to head north. May take you up on it. I've never been to Moab and I'm really jonzin' to head south. Weather is supposed to be "Not Saharah Hot" so I don't think my snowman butt will melt. Haven't made up my mind yet.

Ty,

What part of Alaska? Anchorage or..............not Anchorage? :) Ever heard of Northwestern 4x4 in Anchorage? The first sticker I ever put on my xj was from that shop. My dad and I took a trip up there and fell in love with that part of the country. I want to go up towards Denali someday.

got your phone message. have fun down there tomorrow, Im glad for ya.

Glad you talked me into it. I really felt guilty not going to the ralley but this will be my only chance to see Moab and the parks around it for at least the next two years. I've never been.... But I'm glad I went. Best weekend of wheelin' / sightseeing of my life.

Yup, Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage. Northwestern 4x4 went through a few rough years and is starting to make a comeback. They were a big contributor to our Annual Meet and Greet we held this year.

I'm in the Air Force at the base attached to Ft Rich. Got a buddy in the Army Guard there. Wheel with him all the time. He probably knows your Bro in law.

Alaska is awesome in the summer but the winters get old real quick. My Jeep hates the winter and argues with me on a daily basis on whether it wants to run or not.

Gotta say something about y'all and the area. I've met some great folks over the last week and had a blast.

Spidey (sorry, horrible with names) met me down at Ben Hanks racing. Got to know him and Ben. You guys are great. Ben stopped his work and showed me around his shop, the killer rigs, and both of y'all took the time to fill me in on the area and how best to spend my only weekend here. Spidey talked me into going to Moab and Ben hooked me up with Jim Horne of Outlaw Jeep tours. www.outlawjeeptours.com

Jim and his wife not only run a Jeep tour and ride along business but they manage Portal RV park. They put me up at the park, pointed me in the right direction to get the best out of the weekend. Jim worked to get a trip set up that I could ride along. This is the slow time of the year so nothing really panned out. He went out of his way to take me through Hell's revenge. He was a blast to hang with and we had a great time on the trail.

I know y'all have your own rigs and go down there to hit the trails but keep Jim in mind when you have friends that are going down who either don't have a rig or don't know the trails. He'll treat them right.

I only slept about 4 hours each night. The rest of the weekend was checking out Arches NP, Canyon Lands NP, and camping in Dead Horse Point SP. Breathtaking views. Took about 400 pics, hiked about 10 miles and yes, I wheeled' the Rav 4 a little.... Just down Long Canyon after I broke camp Sunday but I did lift a tire...

I pray that the Air Force see's it fit that I move to Ogden after my tour in Alaska. If not.... I've got a tow rig and a trailer..... I'll be back.

Thanks for everything. Y'all have a great 'wheelin community here.
