This is the reason I stopped posting there. It all degrades to name calling. Usually the "other" side first, then our side seems to follow.

By the way when I do post a comment I am C2Hall

Yeah, I try to bring things back to the middle ground. Sometimes it works...sometimes not.

And guess who I am on there haha

.... I'm also against any law (ANY LAW) that blanket restricts land access to off roaders, because it's very hard to open land once it's closed. STeve b4 you go on to say we all should all sing happy campfire songs together,

i'll sing and dance some ole campfire songs before steve gets around to tellin you to do it! ;)

1) how is a fine for breaking the law a restriction?

would the law not be considered the restriction? cause and affect.. law.. fine/consequence

2) Steve knows ALL about land being shut down.. i'm not gonna give a bio on the man, but trust me, he's here for that exact reason, and fighting to stop it from happening here in Utah.. we have far too much to lose.

Am i off my rocker here? please help me out if i'm misunderstanding you.

Name calling is the last thing I want. I want people to be civil, make strong arguments and call out inaccuracies.

We are looking to covert people not alienate them.

Agreed, it just makes people angry and feel attacked. Doesn't do any good at all.......

Hope my posts have been helpful on there if you've read them

In the mean time.

Here's How to write a 5 paragraph essay:

  1. Before you begin writing, decide on your answer to the question asked of you. This is your basic thesis.
  2. Before you begin writing, decide on what three pieces of evidence/support you will use to prove your thesis.
  3. Write your introductory paragraph. Place your thesis along with your three pieces of evidence in order of strength (least to most) at the end of this paragraph.
  4. Write the first paragraph of your body. You should begin by restating your thesis, focussing on the support of your first piece of evidence.
  5. End your first paragraph with a transitional sentence that leads to paragraph number two.
  6. Write paragraph two of the body focussing on your second piece of evidence. Once again make the connection between your thesis and this piece of evidence.
  7. End your second paragraph with a transitional sentence that leads to paragraph number three.
  8. Repeat step #6 using your third piece of evidence.
  9. Begin your concluding paragraph by restating your thesis. Include the three points you've used to prove your thesis.
  10. End your concluding paragraph with a statement of extension which will (hopefully) cause the reader to look beyond what you have written. You do not include new evidence in your last paragraph.
Tips:

  1. Never use I or you (Unless specifically told that it is allowed.).
  2. Do not use contractions in formal writing.
  3. Organization is one of the most important parts of good writing. Make sure to organize from the first paragraph on.

you want people to write a 5 paragraph essay to rebut discussion board comments? That seems a little burdensome to me and out of place. That isn't exactly academia.

But the point is a good one. There is no reason for us to stoop to their level. They are obviously standing on a thin argument or else they would fall back to logic and factual information. When you run out of things to back up your claims, and you can't attack the other person's argument, the only thing left is to attack that person's credibility.

Thats argument theory 101 for dummies.

I was not thinking of the 5pe in all its glory. Mearly as a tool to keep your thoughts in a logical order. But it was Cody that said he was going to focus on opinion peices. That is where one would use that format.

HUH? How did you get this from that? I'm not for felons having guns

Is eye rolling as rude online as it is in real life? Most likely not. :)

I guess I was saying that restricting gun ownership for felons doesn't affect gun rights, as giving tickets for irresponsible OHV use doesn't erode access rights. Maybe apples and tomatoes, but maybe similar.

I'm also against any law (ANY LAW) that blanket restricts land access to off roaders, because it's very hard to open land once it's closed.

I don't think stiff penalties for damage or off-trail driving closes any access. It's unreasonable to think that we can drive anywhere we please (although it was reasonable to think that 20 or even 15 years ago). Today, there are too many users to allow free cross country travel. But I still think we need higher fines. Just like I don't care if the govt eavesdrops on calls. I'm not talking to Al Qaeda. I don't care.

STeve b4 you go on to say we all should all sing happy campfire songs together...

I almost never suggest this...except that one night when the light was just right and we were all in a special mood.

Guess why i don't live there anymore.

I understand. That's why I live in Utah. It's the only reason I live in Utah actually. Well, that and 'cause I like to kick it with my homies Utah style.

Let's hope Utah never becomes like Oregon or Texas. In regards to OHV recreation anyway. Utah would do well to become more like Texas in many other ways.

I think we need to start posting ads about the good things we do as a community promote ourselves let who ever wants to respond to the things we have said respond why do we need to always play catch up and defend ourselves by responding to everyone elses negative comments about us. its time to become proactive and quit being reactive. :D

My .02 Good Times Im out

I think your right. Some times every now and then good things do come out. I watched the things that Utah4x4 put on T.V when they went up A.F and did the clean ups and fixed fences....Why dont we show more of those things? We also need to show that these are aslo family outings. Not just people with big trucks goin out destroying the land.

Im for the stiffer fines also....but those of us who do no wrong have nothing to worry about....let the jerks who run of the trails pay for the bad judment. Its not that hard to follow a trail.

Its not up to "us" what gets aired in many situations... the U4WDA invites the media out to many of our events... they don't even bother giving us a reply. If/when we've had someone come out, its usually a freind of a freind or some similar connection. We would love to have someone volunteer to be our PR liason, someone that can establish some connections with Utah media outlets and start getting some positive press... seeing as volunteers are running thin... we just send them what we can and hope they show.

EDIT: Steve beat me to the punch...

Well Let me see what I can do. I dont want to have to sit back and let my kids grow up seeing the sites of Utah from a paved road. Its just not fare to anyone to lose what we all love to do. I will talk to a few people and see what they say.
