I would actually love to own some ramps... They can be a very useful tool in dire situations. Some of the most "hard core" offroad guys I know carry something similar... Remember its easy to get a buggy back to the trailer, but when your 1000 miles from home, thats hard core IMHO ;)

I have some ramps like that. I took a 6.5' length of galvanized steel loading ramp and cut it in two.

Theoretically it works really well. In reality, they just slide out from under my tires. I need to weld something on the bottom of them so they grip the sand, snow, or whatever has conquered the Xterra.

In some environments ... that's what a bow saw is for ... i.e. making ramps
