Warn 8274 winch

My neighbor just gave me an old 8274 Warn winch for free. So I wondered if these are worth fixing up ?
The neighbor says I will need to find a motor for it. I know I could buy a Warn one but have read on the net that there are other motors that can be put on it. So does anyone have experience with one of these ?

I don't know much about fixing them, but if you give up on it I wouldn't mind having some parts for mine.

I had one on a CJ. I loved it that thing it just kept pulling and pulling. They are loud when used.

8274's are worthless. Give it to me and I will dispose of it for you.

Check on pbb. Bilavista (sp) did a writeup on rebuilding one of those. Pretty in depth and alot of useful info.

Thanks for the replies, the winch is an old model 8274. After taking it apart I found that I am missing the drive gear that goes on the motor and the motor is roasted. Other than that it looks like all it needs is a good cleaning and a lube job. Maybe I should try and talk my neighbor out of the other dead one he has.
