I used to have a Red Healer. Best dog ever, except it killed everything. Cats, skunks, gophers, snakes, squirrels, birds and just about anything else it got a hold of. It didn't have much luck with porcupines though. If I had a little bit bigger yard and a fence I'd be on my way to pick him up.

Had a blue healer quite a while ago. Great family dog and loyal as all get out. When people walked by the hearding instinct would kick it. It was funny to watch and most people didn't mind, but a neighbor lady started to kick him once and he nipped her ankle, barely breaking the skin. All he!! broke loose and cops were called. We ended up having to put him down. I'd rather have put her down.

I have a red and a blue and will never ever own another breed. Just remember, your dog will act like the biggest retard and try every bit of patience you have until it turns about 2 years old.

Best thing for you and the dog? Establish ownership early and if you can't work that dog every day.... Buy lots of toys, NOW!

Other than that, after you succeed with your dog, you will prolly never look at anything other than a healer.

PM me if you want some of the tips I used on both of mine and I will give you my number.

EDIT: Sorry, didn't see the has to go part.

Sorry Bart, I can kinda see her side. I don't know that a huge deal should have been made out of it, or that the dog should have been killed, but IMHO it should have been on a leash. I'm getting sick of having to jump over people's damn dogs that aren't on a leash every time I go for a run. On Saturday some little Shitzu thing ran over to me and I had to literally jump over it. Then today some lady had two dogs that both ran after me. I had to jump over them (or kick/trip over them). Then one ran back to the owner while the other one ran with/in front/behind me. I decided to just let it run with me for a while so the old bag would have to go get it. After a quarter mile or so I told it to go home and it turned back. Hopefully she's still looking for it.

When you're in a public park/road/sidewalk, and you have a dog you can't control, why not have it on a leash? At the very least having to dodge a dog takes my out of my rhythm and screws me up. At worst you'll end up with a dead dog and a law suit. Put it on a leash!:mad:

Sorry for the soapbox, it's just been irritating me for a while. :)

UNSTUCK

But stuck more often.
Any more info on this kind of dog? How big, long/short hair? Do they shed? ect. ect. ect.
I've been thinking about a dog to take to work with me...long drives and such.

My parents have one..

They do tend to shed a good deal during the warm months and not as much during the winter. Their hair is a medium not too long or short. They are very protective and a great pet. My parents loves to play outside and play with my kids 3 and 5. They sometimes can be a pain to train but starting early is the key and stick to your rules. despite my parents dog now being over 13 and deaf and blind she still goes outside on command and will snarl if she notices someone unknown to her is in the house or near. Great dogs for cattle sheep and even for hunting.

When she passes they will get another as they love these dogs and I'd be for one myself If i did not have major allergies. Great dogs and would not discourage anyone from owning one.
