what are you guys paying for welding gas?

I just ran out. I think it was 60 bucks at Airgas, where I bought the welder, I was hoping to find a little cheaper.

At work we pay about $35 I think for the huge bottles but we also fill about 10 at a time (this is for argon) we usually use US Welding...do you own your bottle or are you leasing it???

I think Airgas is one of the only places that will fill your tank right there...US and others usually will just exchange your tank and then you will have a tank that has their company name on it...I think (not positive though) US will fill you tank while you wait but it takes forever...

what about a place to get the tank? I have my welder, but no tank yet, and I don't really want to get one from the net. How much can I get a tank and first fill of argon for? To buy, not to lease, btw.

can I ask why argon...do you do or plan on doing aluminum...if not then I would suggest straight CO2 if you have a smaller welder or a 25/75 mix if you have a bigger welder...if you have a 110V welder I wouldn;t bother with the gas setup...

also as far as where to go I would just call the local welding/gas supply places (Praxair, US Welding, Norco, Air Gas) and get prices...usually I can call the same place three seperate times and get three seperate prices...they usually are not set in stone and depends on the salesman and his mood...IMO:D

I think she said Argon, cuz that's what you said. Argon for Aluminum. CO2/mix for steel.

thats what I was wondering...actually you can use argon for steel but you get no real benefit and it is just more expensive...

straight CO2 burns the hotter than CO2/mix but usually you will have a more cosmetically appealing weld with the mix...

I really dont know...I think the co2 mix will but I dont think it is much of a difference because with either one you should have a pretty clean weld...

we have a 110 130amp mig..we are looking for an argon/co2 mix like 75/25 or whatever....we just need a small cylinder maybe like a 18 inch tall one or whatever...something that will cover a few hours of welding is all...looking for the cylinder and gas fillup...I want to use gas instead of flux core because its what I am using for my spoa n'stuff...used flux core with it on my rock rails and it has full penetration, but it is a bit harder to work with(i'm told it is just as strong though)and I want a more precise weld on anything that is going to havei to deal with my suspension

well the gas setup is no easier to work with...the only real benefit for you would be that you would not HAVE to clean you welds afterwards...personally I would use the flux core, whoever told you that the penetration will be the same doesn;t know what they are talking about...you will get a much hotter weld with the flux core...IF you are set on going with a gas setup(which I think you are crazy for doing with a 110V setup) I would only use straight CO2...that is gonna get you your hottest weld with gas but still not as hot as flux core...

this picture here is a small weld that I did with my old welder with flux core...(its a spring pad too like you are saying you are gonna be doing)

Caleb is right. Gas is useless on a 110 machine, unless you NEED a clean weld, or you are doing body work. I would not do serious fab work with a 110 machine.

that is a very good point...gas is good on a 110V machine when doing body work...why is that?!?!?! because it cools the weld and helps you not to burn through;)

Zactly. If you want to tack your perches on with your welder, you can bring your axles over to my house, and I will weld them up for you.
