Moron Burglar Blasted by Homeowner-Hunter

Last Update: 12:59 pm
A Clinton Township man who just returned from a hunting trip shot a would-be burglar who broke into his condo, fled the scene, and then returned looking for a fight.

WATCH REPORT IN VIDEO PLAYER RIGHT

It all began around 3:30 a.m. Monday at the Colony Condominum complex when the 29-year-old suspect from Rochester Hills broke into a condo and was startled by the owner who was brandishing a 12-gauge shotgun.

"He just got back from hunting and had a shotgun in his closet," said Clinton Township Police Captain Richard Maierle. "[The suspect] said something to the effect of 'Hey, wrong apartment. Sorry. Hey, I'm outta here.' He ran down the stairs. The howeowner went down the stairs after him."

The suspect managed to escape. But then, as the homeowner was looking to call police, he returned.

According to Maierle, "the suspect came back around the corner and screamed at the homeowner, 'Hey I got a gun now. I'm gonna kill you.' He charged the homeowner. They started wrestling over the gun. The gun discharged into the ground once. Then somehow [the gun] got reracked. The gun then went off again and shot the suspect in the leg, right below his knee."

The suspect is being treated at a local hospital. Doctors say he may lose his leg.

Police say boy, 14, slain in robbery

A 14-year-old boy was shot to death by a man he was trying to rob at gunpoint, police said.

The body of Da’Vonte Reed, 14, 2532 69th Ave., was found about 6:15 a.m. Wednesday, Baton Rouge Police Department spokesman
Sgt. Don Kelly said. Police believe Reed was shot during an armed robbery he was committing with another teenager.

Detectives believe Reed and the other teen were trying to rob a man near the intersection of Charles Street and Mission Drive, Kelly said. The man they were trying to rob pulled out his own gun and fired the shots that killed Reed.

A third person with Reed and the other teenager was also struck by the man’s bullets.

Kelly said police do not believe the wounded person was involved in the robbery and he is not being arrested. He went to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening wounds and is a witness in the case.

Reed’s body was eventually dumped by his accomplice in the parking lot of an appliance store at 2441 N. Sherwood Forest Drive, Kelly said.

Police have not found the man who fired the shots, Kelly said.

Detectives are asking him to come forward to give a statement but do not expect him to face charges.

“Our investigation at this time leads us to believe he was a victim of a robbery attempt,” Kelly said. “He fired in self-defense.”

Booked Wednesday night on a count of first-degree murder in the shooting was Demarcus Alexander, 17, Kelly said.

Alexander, of 15442 Becky Lee Drive, can be charged in the fatal shooting because he is accused of being involved in an armed robbery where someone was killed.

KENS 5 Eyewitness News

One teen was shot in the hip and another is on the run after a burglary attempt from a house being renovated.

The shooting occurred Tuesday shortly after 1 a.m. in the 200 block of Early Trail.

According to police, the contractor had employees staying inside the house after thieves had targeted the home.

The employee involved in the shooting told police he heard someone breaking into the home and shot at the pair because he thought they were armed.

The injured teen was transported to University Hospital and is expected to be okay.

Police say they know the identity of the other burglar and it is just a matter of catching him.

Both teens face burglary charges. No charges are expected to file against the employee.

Town uses detectives to cull deer

SMITHFIELD, N.C., Dec. 4 (UPI) -- Police in a North Carolina town are engaged in their second deer hunt, an effort to reduce the wildlife population in an upscale neighborhood.

Three detectives armed with hunting rifles and silencers were patrolling town-owned woods in South Smithfield, The Raleigh News & Sentinel reported. Last year, police killed 25 deer in the neighborhood.

Most residents support the hunt, anxious to keep the deer away from their shrubs.

Using police detectives was adopted by the town as a substitute for a general hunt. Local officials decided that allowing anyone with a hunting license to open fire was too risky.

But some are unhappy. Jim Wilson owns 30 acres in the area.

"They're supposed to be fighting criminals, not pansy-eaters," he said of the police, the newspaper reported.

Joe Folta, a biologist with the state Wildlife Resources Commission, said he had recommended bringing in bow hunters or sharpshooters. But he said the police detectives, while not a method used by any other town, would do the job.

BALTIMORE (Map, News) - As Sarah Kreager, 26, tried to sit down on a Baltimore City bus Tuesday, police say, a middle-schooler told her she couldn’t. When she attempted to take another seat, a middle-schooler wouldn’t let her. Finally, according to police, Kreager just sat down.

She was “immediately attacked” by nine students — three females and six males — from Robert Poole Middle School. They punched and kicked her at 2:59 p.m. at the intersection of 33rd Street and Chestnut Avenue, according to Maryland Transit Administration police.

Kreager was dragged off the bus and her boyfriend, Troy Ennis, attempted to get her back on, police said.

She sustained “serious injuries” and had to be transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, according to a police report.

Kreager suffered two broken bones in her left eye socket, police said.

“She had eye muscles that were damaged,” a police report states. “She had deep lacerations on the top of her head and another above her neck.”

Two seats and the bus’ rear glass were destroyed during the attack, police said.

The bus driver on the No. 27 line quickly called police, who responded and arrested the nine juveniles, said Jawauna Greene, an MTA police spokeswoman.

All nine suspects, ages 14 and 15, were arrested and charged with aggravated assault.

Their bus tickets — provided by the school — have been revoked, Greene said.

“Riding the bus is a privilege,” she said. “Public safety is our primary concern.”

Greene said the investigation into the incident was ongoing and she didn’t know whether the attack had anything to do with the victim’s race.

The suspects in the incident are black. The victim is white, according to the police report.

Baltimore resident David Briggs, who lives near the crime scene, said the incident underscores Baltimore’s pervasive crime.

“Now, I can't even ride the bus,” he said.
