What do you do?

Yesterday I sold the Dana 35 I pulled from my TJ. Today I get a text of all things to tell me that I suck and that I had sold he guy a bad axle.

First off I don't enjoy doing business through text. I am more of a face to face person, I am not much of a phone person either. I've never had anything like this happen before and would have been more than willing to work with the guy if was not such an ass.

I am just curious if this is typical behavior these days with the new younger generation. Granted I am not all that much ahead of this generation as far as age goes. I did grow up out in the woods and we didn't have cell phones.

I don't know I guess I am just used to doing things a certain way and texting is not one of them.

Now I can't imagine what could be wrong with the axle since it worked great before I pulled it and hadn't touched it since.

I guess I am overreacting about this but I just can't get it out of my head.

if you know it was good, just ignore him and he'll go away.

If you're not sure if it was good or not, and you want to make good on your deal, try to contact him in some way other than text to hear the story.

I wonder if he just realized that dana 35s in general suck, or if he thinks the one you sold him had a problem.


Whenever I get screwed on a deal, I call the seller to talk to them and explain what happened. If they don't respond to my calls or get back to me, then I send them a text saying I wish people were more honest and that they misrepresented the info.

Don't worry about it, a lot of teens these days just have zero respect for anyone, unless it gets them something. I was at Office Depot yesterday, and these two teenagers were giving the employees crap. I mean they were making fun of them, walking behind the counter where it was employees only, and just being plain rude. They thought they were so funny, and I just stood there in awe. Sad.

I am sure it was good. What I think happened was that he stayed up all night to swap it out, took it for a test drive and tried out the four wheel drive only to have something break because he didn't have matching gears in the front.

It's all good I tried to call and he would not answer so obviously he won't man up enough to talk about it like an adult.

You are not responsible for the condition of the axle. If a person is too stupid
A) pop the diff cover to do a quick visual (wear pattern and count the teeth to verify ratio)
b) Check for slop in the u-joints
Then they deserve what they get. I am sure you gave the guy a reasonable price so don't sweat it.

If you sell something and tell them it is good it had damn well better be good. Now if the moron is to stupid to verify gear ratios and breaks something... then well he is a idiot and dont sweat it. That is not you fault but installers fault.

Well he would not return my call or my text so it is no sweat off my back now. I honestly would have done what was needed to make it right if it had been my fault which I know is not the case. I told him if he wanted to try and make it right he had until last night to call me or whatever was wrong would become his problem.

There's only so much that can be bad on a rear axle. If they didn't look it over good enough its their fault :-\ Just ignore them they'll go away.

If there was a return policy for everything I've bought off KSL in good faith I would take 90% of it back to the person I bought it from! (seriously) You deal with it and move on. If you want something perfect buy it new or inspect every inch of it....

When I browse online ads for parts I completely avoid the ones that say "text preferred", I value my time and need details right away in person or at least on the phone. Shoot, when I bought my hp30 last year the seller thought it had 3.73's in it. Did I call and bug him when I found out they were 3.07's, no, I was just happy that I got a steal on a loaded axle.

I do all business through text and email especially when it comes to money; this way there's a written record and no one forgets exactly what everyone expects. Vendors call me and make appointments with me all the time but when I need a quote for a specific order, it's always via text so I have easy reference when the bill comes due.
It's a very smart way to do business and I am a very smart business man.... damn sexy too.

The Romans had this 2,000yrs ago: CAVEAT EMPTOR. Due your due diligence, ask questions, make the calls, see the pictures, proceed or don't.

I have no sympathy for that guy. Used parts sometimes do not hold up, that's how it goes.

Could it be a "wrong number"? I got a text asking to trade a pistol for a yamaha dirt bike that I have on KSL and right after I replied "no thanks" I got another text offering me the same pistol trade for my "trijicon" I just assumed he entered the wrong number (I don't have a trijicon). Maybe it was someone else who sold him the bad axle, and he got the #s mixed. If not then at least you could try to tell yourself that, maybe it would make YOU feel better.

No it wasn't a wrong number. I have not heard anything in a couple days so I guess its not that big of a deal.

I do a lot of dealings over text. I prefer it. Email or text for me are both instant, I work in a loud work enviroment, and dont really like talking on the phone.

I feel if you post an ad on the internet, you should reply via internet (email).

I definitely change my expectations based on the response method. if someone emails or texts me, I see it as a curiosity. If they call me, then I know they were interested enough to speak to me. I do all 3 types of business, but if it's done entirely via text messages, then I have lower expectations than if they have at least called me once or twice. I think it's a generational thing. Teens don't see the need to talk when they can just send a text. Adults prefer more than a short text message from a complete stranger. At least that's how I see it. Man, now I feel like an old man.
