What does it take to blow up a 20T press?

Not often wrong. Never quite right.

Give to Bryson. If I took it, it'd probably sit around for a couple years before I got around to doing anything with it.

Where does one get a set of steel arbor plates that don't cost more than the press??? The swag ones are nice but holy crap that's some expensive steel!

I made my arbor plates from 1/2" and 5/8" steel welded together. :D I don't know if they're as strong as a solid piece of 1 1/8" plate would be, but they seem to be doing fine so far.

Ok I am tracking this thread because a Press is the next purchase for me. For the arbor plates, can you make them out of 1"x12" flat bar? I found 2 feet of it and can have it milled down for arbor plates. when you reinforce the top what size beam should be used?

You certainly aren't going to be bending that with a 20 or 30 ton, Red. If you have someone to cut it, go for it.
Yeah I have a guy who who has pretty much anything you could want for machines but it takes him FOREVER to do anything. I could make probably 2 or 3 sets of arbor plates out of this but it will take him probably 2 months just to get around to them.

be careful putting a schload of pressure on a stubborn part like that. Hardened steel can fragment and literally go into you like a bullet.
