What does this do/ It should be in every emergency tool box

So I was bored and wanted to make a tool that I have looked at for some time that I think every trail tool kit should have.

I spent less than $5 at home depot on 5/16" threaded couplers, combined with some 1/4" hr round stock and some left-over all-thread.

The bits before assembly:

Who can tell me what it does?.....

Unfortunately, having a decent welder does not guarantee decent welds but it's not likely to fall apart any time soon...

When I found the commercial version I thought it was just brilliant, just over priced. I thought "wow, I can do that for next to nothing", and I did.
(ok, I already had the welder)

Spork

Tin Foil Hat Equipped
Looks almost like some kind of clamp or way of pulling away from the point, the pointed end looks welded to me to the only thing that would move is the bar in the middle. I made something more crude than that when I was pulling the pilot bearing when I was replacing my clutch a few years back.

Always with the negative waves Kurt, always with the negative waves

??? Do explain.

As for this particular tool, they are cool. But I've never personally run across a need for one on the trail thus I don't think I would tell others they should have them. Your results may vary, hence the spice of life.

Apologies Kurt,

I tend to spout quotes from movies that pop into my head. (bonus points if you can name the movie)
My inexperience on the trail is showing and I just thought it was such a neat tool that took up so little space and could save my bacon one day.

Ah, I surely wouldn't not pack it if you have one... guarantee the day you leave it home you will have needed it. :D
