What is Little Moab?

I have some old videos of guys playing around at LM with the Basin and Range group. DJ (DJ's Traction Systems) gave them to me several years ago. I want to say the dates on the tapes were late 80's? Darrell Noorda (previous owner of Cruiser Outfitters) and an old Basin and Range member told me about the trees and how you used to never see a soul out that way... he would have been out that way sometime in the 80's too I presume?

When I was treasurer of the group, DJ was Pres. Darrell was still around, but I wasn't part of that group until probably '93-'94. I've got a bunch of pics on film around somewhere of our trips out there, I'll see what I can find.

Back when I started going out there, it had been wheeled much. I was part of the now defunct Basin and Range Cruisers, a TLCA membership club. We went out there quite a bit, but back then everyiine called it the Rock Pile. The little section over by the road (teh area next to the big rock formation) had been wheeled much more, and there were quite a few trees on the rocks at Little Moab.

Cool, I didn't realize it had been used much back then... is Kurts late-80's timeframe about right? I was still in Jr High... :p

My friends and I found the area in '97-98 and started playing out there on the weekends. I had my CJ5 w/a SBC, sprung-under on 32" tires and a rear LockRite. We had a blast out there, would go out camping on the weekend, take a few guns for shooting and do some 'hardcore' wheelin! I have some old film pics too, somewhere. Between my friend Paul and I we came up with the name Lil' Moab. Lots of people started calling it Little Moab and that stuck. It's fun the first couple times, it was a really good testing ground before taking the big trip to Moab.

I think the late 80s is probably pretty close. When I came into the club, they had already been going out there for a few years.

Guess what the label on the tape is called... "rock pile"

Darrell always called it "Mini Moab", still does to this day. I'll have to dig up a VHS player to see if I can figure out when it was recorded  The labels on his other tapes are from the early 90's, but they are Moab trips.

I know Muleskinner used to take a lot of pics out there. Maybe he'll chime in with some...;)

My first time out there had to be around 88-89, I want to say Jr year of high school, could have been senior year. That was with Greg Miller. I think the first time with Darrel was around '91. I can also tell you the last day I was out there:(

I was hanging out there in the late seventies. I was climbing rocks but not in Jeeps. We were looking for birds of prey and such. Wheelin was pretty mild back then compared to today. We used to call it "four diggin".

Yep....
He was my buddies scout leader. But our explorations out there were un-official:p

Cool. He is a big Land Cruiser aficionado, he's got a couple of FJ40's and a troopy

Talked with Darrell last night on the phone for a minute, he calls it Mini-Moab, etc and said his first time out there would have been late 80's or early 90's.
