$7000 is almost TJ territory... It would have to be a pretty sweet CJ.

But they are still making TJs. CJs stopped rolling off the line 18 years ago. If it has no rust and is in good shape It may be a deal. I know first hand that CJs can easily be worth more than 7000.

Not to me. CJ's are inferior to any YJ from 91 up, in my opinion. I would get a YJ before I spent over 3500 on a CJ. Just because something is old, doesn't make it worth more money.

I would build a YJ too but the fact is CJs in excelent shape can sell for more and often just because something is older it is worth more money.

CJ's clean usually camand top dollar! V8 are cool I like CJ looks better then YJ. YJ suposedly have tougher frames if you dont mind looking like everyone else. I don't agree that in stock form a YJ is any better wheeler then a CJ

This one has a V8. 5 speed too. Body, frame, AND wiring, are in much better shape than most any CJ out there. Not a speck of rust on the original paint before we painted it.

Oh, I thought we were talking about factory Jeeps. I don't remember any YJ's comming with a V8. So as long as were talking about aftermarket upgrades, how about a matkins frame on a CJ and then what advantage does a YJ have?

One thing to look out for, is the 401 was never an option in 1986 and you may encounter some hassle if you have to get it to pass emissions.

Some people think that there rig is worth more than it really is. To some, this Jeep may be worth the $7,000.00. bobdog has the sweetest CJ I have seen in a long time, but I wouldn't give him more than $5,000.00 for it (example).

To each his own. The question is, is it worth $7,000.00 to you?

hold on I'm not trying to star any sh!t. In my OPINION I like the looks of the CJ better. I know V8 swaps are plentiful in a YJ. Factory option V8s. Compareing stock to stock is what I was talking about I don't think there is an advantage one way or the other. Old vs. new? I guess that comes down to personal preferance as to value. Try finding a clean no rust or limitted rust CJ. they are going up in price every minute. As far as the original ??? 7grand for a used CJ with a 401 727 locked & geared isn't that far out of line depends on who did the mods and what kind of job they did and what condition the rest of the Jeep is in heat problems can be trouble with a bored 401 depending on who built it and how much it was bored. Run a high quaity 4 core radiator get a better fan and hold on. AMC 401 can rip again depends on who built it.

YJ's don't come with V8's. This one was swapped. I really don't have a problem with CJ frames as long as they are '76 or newer. My point is, 7K for a CJ is a lot to pay for a 20 year old vehicle that isn't fuel injected. The YJ's were all painted from the factory with newer paint technologies resulting in a lot less rust. A V8 is nice, I will be the first to tell you that I prefer the sound over any other engine type. But I would ditch a carbed V8 for a fuel injected 6 in a heart beat. Yes you can inject a V8, but if I had a chioce between ANY CJ, and a 91 or newer Wrangler with the 6, I would pick the Wrangler every time.

Oh, I'm well aware that YJs never came with V8s, I was just stating my point. I do agree though that 7K is way too much for any CJ I have seen. As far as my personal preferance though: If I was going to spend $7000 on a new Jeep, I would get a CJ and swap in a fuel injected V8 and build as I saw fit. For that much, I could put on a new kevlar body and still have room to build.

Okay, this wasn't supposed to be a CJ vs YJ thread, he just asked if it was worth $7000. For a CJ to be worth 7 grand its gonna hafta be in absolutely incredible shape. If it's in that good shape, you're prolly gonna be afraid to wheel it. So, it's prolly not worth that, and if it is, you shouldn't buy it cuz you won't be able to do what you want with it, y'know? BC (or whatever alias he's going by these days) had a beutiful CJ that was probably worth that much, but it was so nice that he wasn't willing to wheel it where he wanted to wheel. He sold it and bought that beater Toyota thing. Oh, and if you're looking for a Jeep, you should buy a YJ instead. :D
