so...i hooked everything back up onto the 351w. for the ignition i just plugged in the distributer and checked my conections....
and tryed to fire it up...it had a hard time turning over and no spark... and the lights where really dim....well i forgot to hook up the ground wire from the batt to the motor.
so hook that up and everything works grate but still no spark.???

I had a blown fuse from the hot wire to my box, so replaced it and tryed to crank it and it popped again...so double check everything and try again...it would turn over but when i stop turning it over it will pop again....well after fighting a fuel problem for almost 2 hours i got it to fire up...it would run for maybe 5-7 seconds then the fuse would pop again???? went through 12 fues's 15's and 20's

i checked out my box and the main ground wire is melted...but its not hot???

i don't get it, everything worked perfectly with the 302...but put the 351 in and i have alllllll cinds of grief!

oh and my exhaust wont bolt up to the 351 ether!

and my transmission is not working as well...i put it in gear and it feels like it go's into gear but i hit the gas and nothing...??????????

ground wire on the fuse box may be fried cause when you didnt have the ground to the motor all your return voltage was running through that ground and it most likely over loaded it. positive or negative its still voltage and when it comes to turning over a motor thats a lot of current for it to pass. take luck

stay calm youll get it, everyone has problems when they swap motors. i have never done a swap, fired it up and had everything perfect, i wish i could say i have but there are always bugs you have to weed out. start by checking all your grounds, make sure there is one from the block to the body, block to the frame, battery to the frame, battery to the body. then look over everything because it sounds like you have a short somewhere, this shouldnt be too bad, as i recall, 351w harnesses are somewhat simple. im pretty sure the coil needs to be grounded as well. take your time. youll figure it out, and more power is always worth it!

oh its got WAY more power! :) just at idle it shakes the hole bronco and barly push on the gas and it just wraps up like its nothing.
little worried im going to start snaping shafts.

i have never had such a fight with a swap before. and now i got to pull my tranny back out and most likely get ANOTHER new converter cus it must not be seated. :-\

it will be worth it tho....just when that will be is a better question.

need a new balencer, custom tranny lines, and need to re make my exhaust to boot.

so funny tho, just looking at my old 302 on the stand, it looks so small i could play soccer with it  the 351 really fills out my motor compartment perfect. i love it in there.

I have that swap in mine I wouldnt ever go back . In the ford automatics they used about 8 different flex plates with different offsets for different motors ...make sure you are not binding the converter into the pump. It also sounds like the converter may have slipped out of allignment a little when you put it on the engine. if so you could have offset the trans. pump ears in the trans. and broken them. the pump will feel like it wants to work but it will slip and not make enough preasure to move the car . ths means a trans teardown and a new pump " sorry "

i already have scout parts on it....they work grate :D

and this is not a case of ford vs chevy vs dogs

this is me not knowing how to put in a transmission :hickey:

but if any motor is taking the Windsor's place it will be ether a 7.3 or a cummins or a viper motor.

well i sold the 71 just a few mins ago. cool guys. they helped me push the red one back in the garage, so i can now take the tranny out....AGAIN...and replace the pump. i have a spare c6 from my old 78 ill swipe off of it.

so it wont cost me anything at least...just sucks. took it out, rebuilt it, put it back in, took it out again for the motor, now got to take it out again. :-\

least im getting good at taking it in and out
