What should I do with my brother's old Blazer?

My brother and embabes dad lost his battle with cancer and we are trying to help his wife pay the bills. He had an old 78 Blazer that he would never part with. It was so rusty and falling apart a few years ago that I put an 82 Blazer body on it. We also put in a brand new GM crate 350 at the same time. We never quite got around to painting it and re-doing the interior so I don't think it would go for that much selling it whole. I think parting it out would probably be the best option. I have had thoughts of taking it and making a crazy off road rig but I already have too many of those. So if it was your Blazer would you part it out , sell it for whatever you could, or make an off roader ?

Sucks about your brother. There's not a big market for Blazers for whatever reason. I'm not sure at all what the best option would be. You might make more money parting it out, but I'm not sure you'll sell a bunch of parts? It's always nice to just move something out of the yard as well so a sale is a clean way to go.

Dave I'm sorry to hear about your brother. :( The world needs more nice people like the Buckmiller family.

Part that Blazer out or just sell it as is.

Sorry to hear about your brother.
I say if you are not looking to make a windfall profit. Find someone who will really appriciate it and sell it to someone who will love it as much as your brother did.
Be picky as to who you sell it to if you can.

Condolences on your brother.
You could sell the crate motor for almost as much as the entire rig. Parting it is more work but probably be more profitable

Blazers are free, so I'm gonna have to go w/parting it out too. :(

Post some pics, though, CK5.com is full of guys looking, and I'm working on some people to get into it cheap too.

Thanks everyone I appreciate the sentiments. Maybe if I clean it up a bit we can sell it complete if not I'll sell it for parts. Just the obituary cost them $1000 so I'm sure they can use the money.

This is a tough question and I am sorry to hear about your brother. He is in a better place now and will feel no more pain. As far as what to do with the Blazer I would say to hang on to it. If he would never part with it then why not hang onto it. I know you said that his wife could use the money but, how much would she really get for it, realistically? It may be better to hang on to it and finish what your brother was never able to do.

what is this thing worth really? maybe there would be a club that would be willing to host raffle at a up coming car show or something. I know there is alot of people on here with big hearts and I can say if I knew a couple 10 or 20 dollar raffle tickets were going to a great family i'd buy some. 10 or 20 dollar tickets add up fast. Maybe some vendors would make small product donations to raffle as well? I'm not a vendor but I'm a business owner and I would donate a gift card. Just an idea....

Well one of my other brothers and I cleaned out the Blazer and I now have it in my garage. It ran great even though it hadn't been driven since my brother got too weak to drive it. It is in good shape mechanically but I wish we had painted it sooner. I have it parked next to my Scrambler and it looks like the wheel base is very close to the cj8. Maybe I should ditch the Blazer body and make it into a jevrolet for my nephew ?

Well here is a picture of it. The 350 4 bolt motor has about 26-28K miles on it and runs great. It has an sm465 4 speed, 205 tcase, d44 front and a gm 12 bolt rear. He had the dual exhaust and the springs replaced not too long ago. The body has the standard rust that these get and the interior is rough. I have been watching the classifieds to see what they go for and the prices go anywhere from $400-$5000. I still haven't decided if I should try and sell it whole, part it out or take the drivetrain and put it in a jeep project. What do you think ?
