What to do with a can of R12?

While preparing to move my parents, we came across a can of R12 refigerant (actually, my mom threw it in the garbage). Should I just drop it off at an A/C place for recovery?

I checked Ebay already. Doesn't seem to fetch enough to bother with. I would sell it local though.
