I have been thinking of putting a pack together so I can just take off when I get the time this summer and go camping. So I would like to ask some of you that get out and go camping a bit what you guys have in your pack or box that you can just pick up real quick and go?

People actually have everything ready? Takes me a few hours before I head out but it's usually for a full weekend and I take everything but a kitchen sink.A small trailer just for camping would be ideal though.

Isn't there a thread about this already? I remember 'cause I posted "God's good humor" and it kept getting deleted... lame.

I have all of mine in a first responder bag. It has many little pockets and has backpacker straps on the back. I have the following but I'm sure I'm forgetting some stuff, these are the four groups I have:

Extensive first aid kit (sutures, stapler, drugs, etc)
3-days worth of food (the disgusting bar kind)
Several bags of water
Survival gear-tube tent, mylar blankets, light sticks, Fire starter, knife, 22 revolver

I found that if you think about what situation you might be in and then figure out everything you might need this will get you really close. Then you can search the web for those little things that you don't think about.

Thank you.

I just found a Dakine Poacher bag I got when I worked for Dakine and had packed away and will be using it.

I have gathered a few little things like a couple knifes, pocket camp stove, small butane can for the stove, and a 3 person dome tent but need a few more.

I found a few more things on ebay that I might try and get for it as well like:
2-emergency thermal blankets
1-flint and steel fire starter
1-10.5" hatchet
10 to 20-12" zip ties
1-1600 Lumen rechargeable flashlight
1-1person tent
3packages-werner pepper jerky
4-egg carton fire starters
1-aluminum alloy cooking set
1-small first aid kit

We have the standard stuff but my mom put some together for my kids that have some toys coloring books puzzles as well as basic survival stuff. Keeping the kids happy if we have to leave home in a rush was something I never thought about.

Back in my tenting days I picked up 2 huge dufflebags from army/navy .
I put my tent, air matress, lantern on one bag then... sleepingbag, clothes and other in bag 2
Also had two med sized coolers one for hot and cold.
Then get all that and other things into the back of a YJ with my son somehow in the middle.

Lovin the trailer right now.

Are you asking about I want to go camping faster bug out or I am leaving and going to survive long term bug out?

We have different bugout bags. Listed in order of usage (first is least)

  1. We have the local dominant religion inspired 72-hour kit, with food, water, cash and undersized clothes for our kids. It's in a pretty heavy duffel. This stays in the house. I think the clothes packed for the oldest will now fit my youngest. Maybe it's time to do an inventory and replenish.
  2. Back-pack based ham radio "grab-n-go" with mobile 2M, 100' cable, J-pole and mast (stashed in garage), drycell batteries, wires, connectors, SWR, ARRL/ARES forms, radio destructions, etc. The 2M is getting raided for use in son's jeep, since it has sat in the bag now for 4-5 years. (I probably ought to check the batteries too...)
  3. Backpack for backpacking. Has the portable stove, fuel, cup & utensils, headlamp, off, first aid, cord, random Mountain House foods, water purifier, tp, etc. Just needs the tent and sleeping bag (which I hope is hanging up downstairs and not in the stuffsack).
  4. Small ham radio "grab-n-go" bag (fannypack) with my dual-band handy-talkie, extra rechargeable battery packs plus AA batteries, roll-up J-pole, cable, connectors, radio destructions, snack, flashlight, multitool, water. This is usually in the truck and also in the jeep when 4-wheeling. The water and snacks seem to disappear.
  5. Go-bag. This is in whatever vehicle I am driving, including the one with a 154" track. It is a hydropak with a couple of handy pockets, pouches and straps. Lightweight Gerber axe, knife, multitool, firestarter, snacks, water, emergency tent, emergency blanket, first aid kit, flashlight, headlamp, lighter, deet, knife sharpener. Different snacks/beverages get packed with each outing. Two of my sons have similar versions (one of them is really into "wilderness survival" type stuff and has a modular Army looking thing with a billion straps and stuff).
