Wheeling around Salt Lake area, how much is there?

I'm considering a job offer near Salt Lake and was wondering how much wheeling there actually is near the city. I've found trail descriptions for stuff all over the state, but virtually none within an hour or so of the city. So, the question is, how many medium to difficult trails exist within one or two hours of downtown SLC, trails that are good for a day trip? Not looking for names or actual locations, just a feel for how many trails there are. As an example, where I currently live in CO, I have about 40 trails available within two hours of my doorstep, most of which won't show up anywhere but a USFS map.

There's not alot of extreme rock crawling around Salt Lake, but there are thousands of miles of dirt roads and old trails around here. I guess it just depends on what type of trail your looking for.

There's not much within an hour of SLC, Utah is pretty restrictive on trails close to the heavily populated areas around SLC. It's not like CO, that's for sure.

What kind of work do you do? If you could find a similar job offering around St George, there's lots of great wheelin around there, but it's more like Vegas temp-wise. The Western Slope of CO isn't bad either. ;)

South of SLC is American Fork Canyon. Several good trails there. And almost due west of the canyon is Five mile Rec area. more good stuff there. Little Moab is south of there a ways. Out in the west desert there are trails along the old railroad, Pony Express, and through ghost towns aplenty.

Sounds like what I've been finding. Lots of trail riding, very little crawling. Trail riding is great, I just wanted to confirm what I've seen about the rocks.

Call Draper City and ask them when they are going to create motorized challenge routes in Corner Canyon along some of the old roads.

In fact, EVERYONE on RME should do this.

Corner canyon was a fun place to play around until they closed it down to motorized vehicles.

I haven't been up that way in years, but I was under the impression with all of the residential construction there wasn't much corner canyon left

Hello,

I am another Colorado fellow. I have lived in Aspen, Keystone, Colorado Springs, and Ft. Collins. You are going to find nothing like that out here. There are some nice LITTLE trails, but not a lot that will take very long (hour or two that I have seen) and everything else you can mostly take a car on. It is still pretty, just not as interesting and certainly not as much elevation gains...

Not the worst place to wheel, but far from easily accessible.
