When do AF Canyon trails open?

Does anyone know when the trails in American Fork Canyon typically open up? Or if you don't know, is there somewhere I can call to check frequently on their condition? I'm also interested in Hobble Creek Canyon, if anyone knows when that area should open up...

As soon as the snow melts... with the recent snow I'm guessing we'll be at least another 2-4 weeks on AF

As a general rule, the alpine loop will open when the snow is clear AFTER may 1. Sometimes its almost june, but at times they have cleared the remaining snow if it running late in may and then open it.

Well, I hope I'm around for it at least for a little bit. Air Force is gonna send me somewhere real soon, I just don't know when and I don't know where. If anybody plans any runs in AFC before I go, count me in.

Typically by memorial weekend. Give the amount of snow at Snowbird,,, I wouldn't hold my breath on that date this year...200+ inches...

I ran Mineral Basin May 22nd last year but yes we got more snow this year so we will have to wait and see.

The Rock Garden is really cool looking in the spring, its like you are driving up a rocky river bottom.

Ahhh... the memories...
FYI everyone. The Canyon is impassable right now in the narrow section before the Cemetery. A huge rockslide a few months ago has a giant boulder in the road that the FS backhoe could not budge. I have discussed opening the road with the FS and we (U4) have been invited to a Dynamite party as soon as the snow melts enough. All are welcome to bring their picks and shovels of course! Lunch and drinks provided by U4. Date to be announced.

I would guess June before the snow melts eonough to get all the way up to Mineral Basin this year.

All downhill from here
Went snowmobiling yesterday. Top of the loop road has about 7 feet still. Didn't get up mineral way, but it should be about the same.

Went for a ride today. First pic is at Tibble Fork, second is the big slide hill on the way up to Mineral Basin... the snow wasn't real deep but it was too soft around the rocks. The third pic is about half way back to the parking lot, you know the one where I had to load my bike and leave after the big 3 mile ride because I found a missing bolt in the frame after the snow drift

Edit: There is a LOT of water coming out of that canyon right now.

Now I know that is where that I was. Utah virgin, and my first experience to really cool wheeling was AF canyon.

One of the most gorgeous things I have ever seen.
Never driven a road that thought it was ariver before, or vice versa.

Was a great time. Anybody ever come back down and gone up into the abandoned mine area and taken a left on the little road, if you go right it vertically dead ends in like a 1/4 mile, and gone down the path that parallels the main road?

We did that as well, and had to turn around when the wife was sure that i was gonna roll if I went any further. If you have been there you will know the part, the road has an elbow, that is maybe 4o feet across, the "up" part of the elbow is up hill, the road has probably a 25 0r 30 degree slant, and there is nothing to prevent a roll down the side of the nountain?

Where does that go, and how passable/unrollable is that part?

The head of the road has the ATV/bike/jeep picture, and states that it is private property but open to 'wheeling, which could change depending on the respectfulness of the 'wheeling.

Damn, I miss UT. Id is pretty, but have never seen anything as pretty/rough as what I have seen down there.
