Maddie and I mostly maddie got a new tow rig.

And I just have some questions.

If its rated over 24,000 you need cdl? Even if it's just to pull a crawler?

Air brakes need cdl? Or just an endourcment ?

I read some where talking about total weight rating as in the trailer and the truck added together how does that work?

Its
a gasser where do I take it for safety and emissions?

Holy crap. Are you planning on towing an aircraft carrier? :D

No just 2 buggys.. Believe it or not this was the cheapest route with most dependabilty for our budget.

I know parts will be expensive but it was used to haul people at Yellowstone and Yosemite national parks and only has 37000 miles on it so hopefully with the small amount we will be using it we won't need to buy parts too soon

I fiure it like this we paid 3 grand for the trailer with air ride suspension and $1650 for the truck..

So if it last a little while I will be very satisfied..I paid 1500 my girlfriend paid the rest.. But after driving it I think I'll buy it for her it's really fun the drive .. Im glad it has power steering after my 12358 point turn last night!

I do wish I could trade the air brakes and air suspension for air conditioning, it has a fan In the cab that helps a lot
but last night I was parking it at my girlfriends grandpas and didn't know what he wanted me to do..

So i had to turn the fan off to hear ..then I got it where he wanted it and he changed his mind.. But didn't tell me where he wanted it just told me what to do(pull forward turn right, back up left ect for an hour)

If I would have know what he was going for I could have swung it around and make it in 2 try's but I didn't realize what he was having me do and I don't think he realized how big it was.. But it all worked out .. Eventually

Nice link Herzog!

You may be able to find a roof mount AC unit.

Do NOT put motor sports related decals on that thing, it can cause you some delay when crossing state lines. Some DOT officers may assume the decals mean you are a sponsored team, which means you earn money by using the truck on the highway.

Please do add one big flat black straight pipe, cab visor, and CB.

Haha hickey just for you I'll work on that list..

Anyone have info on where to do safety and emissions .

It had no emissions done last year not sure if that's because it was registered in a rural county or if it doesn't need them or what.

It has Cali smog stuff on it . If not needed here is it worth removing to open up some more power and better fuel mileage?

Maddie has the paper work but ill give it a shot.

1981 international s series , 446 gas engine, 5 speed manual trans 2 speed rear axle

And thanks Steve it's a lot cheaper than both of us having our own tow rig and trailers.
and a lot cheaper than buying a diesel with under 200k manual tranny and a trailer big enough for both rigs..

I have been hauling the mog with a semi for years. This is straight out of Utah's CDL manual (http://publicsafety.utah.gov/dld/docs/CDL_Handbook.pdf), page 1-1:
The following are exempt from the CDL requirements:
• Military....
• Farm vehicles....
• Firefighting and emergency vehicles.
• Recreational vehicles that are not used in commerce and are driven solely as a family or personal conveyance for recreational purposes.

That being said, I wouldn't drive an air-braked vehicle without understanding everything in the CDL manual and being able to pass it. I just wouldn't get the CDL and all of the crap that comes with it.

This rig will be for sale sometime later this year, if anyone is interested in moving up. I will be moving down to a one-ton truck that can be used for other stuff.

Oh, and get your safety inspection from any heavy truck place - I use Freightliner out on 21st and 5600 W. They are kind of slow, but do a good job and are not too picky. I live in Tooele, so I never have emissions done.

Thanks for the info guys..

And Mitch both are rigs have 117 wheel base with 40s

So to even get 2 on we need to make a ramp at the front. So 3 is out

Thought about a tent trailer or camper on the tounge but it would limit turning radius even more!
