Indeed. i was speaking generaly. The composition varies. But as i'm aware Windsheilds are not tempered. DS refers to the thickness of each layer. The biggest variance is the layer in between sheets of glass... whatever he gets will most likely be a pilkington windsheild.

We used to temper custom cut glass for hot rods and such. Graylite 40 makes for really nice side and rear windows on a custom car/truck. We did not put our bug/logo on such glass, as our tempering process did not meet the strict autoglass break pattern.

you talking about Autoglass in general or just windsheilds?
Both. We would cut lami windshields for friends, even grey lami. As you said, laminated auto has a stronger resin between the two sheets of DS (double strength). Before the stronger resin was used, poeple would only partially break through the windshield in an accident, giving them a "Glass necklace" which would lead to massive bleeding at the neck.

yeah, the only tempered windsheilds i'd heard of are on airplanes and it's extremely hard to do. They quickly did away with them because of 0 visibility when they broke. Tempering a windsheild is extremely iffy because it won't hold the shape of the glass perfectly going through the furnace, and that's not to say anything about both layers of glass holding the same shape and being able to come together in order to form a lammy after the oven.

The really fun stuff to play with is lexan though

I did only autoglass for JPG, out of Provo for a couple years, before that I had my own mobile auto glass biz, and before that I did auto/residential/commercial for over six years at skyline glass (Mtpleasant).

I still do autoglass now and agian, and yes Ive cut custom lami for equiptment, hotrods, jeeps and whatever flat, and even custom curved for bad body shops, I used to also create custom tempered, cut, sand, predrill and ship off for tempering.

Do you know Gordon Dewall?

I dont think so..sure if I seen him Id recognize him if he was at JPG. that place was so big with so many departments that It was hard to know everybody, his name sounds familiar, and thats probably because you would here peoples names being paged over the intercom or over the truck radios all day. half the time I was mobile at dealerships and bodyshops and what not. installers I worked with were Richard Nielson, Ryan Hatch, and Ryan Petersen. Manager was Dave Stemmons. now Im an autoglass name dropper.
