Broke my stock rear 60 shaft in BFE today. Twisted it right off at the splines. Any ideas?

Checker Auto on the south end of town stocks a lot of Yukon gears and shafts. They ain't cheap, but they're on the shelf!

Good luck!

Last week we called Moab 4x4 Outpost. All the person said they could get was a stock one out of another D60 for $75. No Yukon or anything in stock. Checker said they didn't stock the rear ones either.

You don't seriously think a small operation like M40 has the money or storage space to keep a supply of Yukon stuff in stock, do you? You're aware we're talking seasonal and Moab?

Where did I say I thought they would?

I said was what he told us last week when we called. I completely agree I wouldn't keep that stuff in stock either.....but the one week I might consider it, would be EJS. I was giving the OP my input to his question since we were in the identical position last week. Luckily my buddy carries 2 spare shafts though. Don't get your panties bunched up there Bart ;)

besides, there are ways around inventory carrying costs for seasonal shops--especially ones that see a massive increase in business during a 10 day period of time. If I were Yukon I'd be crawling all over the chance to load M40 up with all sorts of inventory to be sold at a slight markup from traditional retail with the agreement that unsold inventory is to be restocked by the supplier after the major rush is done. Hell, I'd park a trailer full of inventory in their parking lot for the week then drive it back.

That right there wouldn't get you very far. If I heard of any shop jacking prices just for Easter I'd go the other way. Can you say price gouging?

If Yukon parked their truck down the street and sold them at whatever price they wanted, that'd be one thing. But to have a shop sell a shaft at one price all year long just to jack them up for EJS? -_-

What do you think the camp sites and hotels do during busy weeks.....? :ugh:

The specific sales concept in question here is time utility, but you could probably break it down to a simple economic concept called supply and demand as well. It's pretty much the most basic law of sales lol.

Right. The shop doesn't stock the shafts all year long, they would have to make special arrangements. Businesses have a right to recoup additional costs for special circumstances, and you have a right not to buy from them. If you don't want to pay for the 10% upcharge for an onsite part during EJS, you're welcome to have one shipped from the supplier directly to your hotel room in 3-7 days.

Personally, If I knew of a shop that went out of their way to incur some additional costs and work to ensure that there was a supply of hard to find parts available just for Easter, I'd be very thankful for them. I've been stuck in Moab without parts before and had to drive to SLC and back to get them. I would GLADLY pay an additional 10% for a part to be available locally. Hell, I'd pay double in some situations.

Check with the guy who lives behind the big yellow shop next to stagecoach grill on the far south end of town, he does drivelines, but I'm not sure if he would have shafts, but it could hurt to ask. he also works at the ford dealership in town
