I am thinking of making my own weld on bead locks since I have some material laying around but don't know where to take it to get it cut. Also not sure if it would be worth it even though I have all the material.

Well, you will pay a one-time "setup" or programming charge. Then, you will be charged based on the distance of all of the cuts to be made. They may even tack on some extra due to the many starts and stops the laser has to make to cut all of those bolt holes. Anyway, you woudn't be able to justify the cost for a first-run, single set of rings.

FWIW, I recommend Precision Laser Processing in Sandy if you decide to look into it further...

Thanks for the info, I know a guy that got some stuff cut and it seemed outrageous but they also provided all the material and I can't get ahold of him to ask where he had it done.Maybe I will just cut them out with my grinder.;)

.... or you could order some from any of the million vendors selling them????

Actually, I'd like to see some grinder-cut DIY beadlocks.... :)

Buy the time everything is said and done you probably will be better off buying a set but I could be wrong as I do not know the shop prices in your neck on the woods. Also if it is for a set of 15" rims pm me as I think I have a set I did not use.

If you have access to a plasma cutter you can make a pretty accurate set of beadlocks. Weld a bolt 90* dead center and use it as a pivot point to cut your round ring.

The next worst step is drilling all the holes...

I've been thinking about doing this too. Anyone know what language the computers use? I can draw up anything in autocad (.dwg), and it'd be really handy if I could walk in with a disk and some metal and tell them to cut it out. Hopefully it'd cut down on costs too.

Why not just find a shop with a comp controlled plasma table? We have one here at work, but I know they wouldn't want to do small stuff like that. We deal in much larger items. It's not the quality of laser, but it's not bad by any means. Small holes aren't perfect, but if undersized just a bit they can easily be opened up with a larger drill bit and would be much easier than drilling the entire hole.

I know there are a few steel shops around with plasma tables, but I don't know of any that would do that small amount of work. All the places I know are huge fab shops. Not really into smaller work like this would be. Surely it would be cheaper if you could find one though.

Honestly...the darned things aren't all that expensive from the various sponsor vendors...But if you gotta do it, talk to Randy at precision laser...he is THE MAN!
