PS verizon's plans are more per month than cingular as well.

Do you actually research the things you say, or do you just spew whatever sounds good at the time?

Verizon and ATT's individual and family share plans are identical. Exactly the same peak minutes for exactly the same monthly cost.

Look for yourself:

http://www.cingular.com/cell-phone-service/cell-phone-plans/?_requestid=658208

ATT offers one lower family share plan than Verizon does, but I don't know anyone that can get away with sharing 550 minutes between two or more phones. ATT's lowest individual plan doesn't have unlimited off-peak where Verizon's does. The only other difference is ATT offers rollover, but you lose them any time you change your rate plan. So if you're using fewer than your monthly minutes you will accrue rollover minutes, but never use them (because you're not going over your minutes). Change your rate plan down because you're not using all your minutes and you lose all your rollovers and you start going over because you're on a lower plan. The stats show that very few people ever use their rollover minutes.

The fact is Verizon and ATT's plans are functionally identical. You can't go around telling people things like "verizon's plans are more per month than cingular as well" when you can't back it up with facts. You will lose credability with your customers. Once they don't trust you they will never buy from you. Trust me. I was in sales for a long time. The one thing that will gain your more loyal customers than anything is honesty.

I'm not in sales any more. I have nothing to gain or lose from this. I just wanted to give some insight so he can make the best possible decision. :)

I've been with Verizon for 6 years now and the only complaint I have is that I still haven't gotten my rebate on my last phone which was nearly 2 years ago now

They are all crap. After having cell phones for over 15 years the best are the ones you cant find:D

There is always a "catch" to providers plans which in the long run, end up being about the same. Just avoid signing any contracts if possible so if you dont like their service, you can tell them to pound sand.

I was at cricket wednesday and thought their plans sounded pretty good until it came to coverage out in BFE utah or NV, AZ and then everyone on the net hating them didn't help either.

Since you're original question was how good of coverage will you have at your favorite off road hot spots my answer is that I haven't had any problems with my Cingular phone. Of the places you mentioned I have really only spent significant time in the Moab, Kanab, and St. George areas. It worked great in all of them.

Now to get involved in rest of the debate...you need to be sure that the phone/carrier you choose will also meet all of the other aspects of your lifestyle. I work for Spring Communications, a local retailer for Cingular (The new AT&T). If you choose Cingular I would recommend buying from a Spring store if for no other reason than all of your future customer service needs will be met by local people (both in person in the stores, and through our Customer Loyalty Center [call center]). We can look up, using our MTI Map Tool, any location that you frequent so that you can see how good of coverage you will have while there.

Rollover minutes is a great cushion to have and can only be found at Cingular. True you may not ever use them, but isn't it great that if you do need them for some reason you can? I like being able to keep what I buy and not have to throw it away just because I didn't use it in the alotted time frame. To correct a partial truth that was previously said about the Rollover...Yes if you change your plan you will lose your accrued rollover, BUT not all of them. Basically...If you have a 2000 minute plan and are always rolling over unused minutes and therefore decide to change to a 1000 minute plan to better fit your needs, you will lose all rolled over minutes accrued that exceed 1000 (or what ever the new plans minutes are). If you had 1500 rollover you would lose 500. The best thing to do is use your rollover and once their gone change your plan. It should also be said that you will lose your rollover after a rolling 12 month calendar. When rollover is used, you use the oldest minutes first.

Other things to consider are can you travel abroad with your phone if you choose to? Are there any exclusions to the plan that are hiden? Cingular offers true mobile to mobile (M2M) minutes w/out exclusion as long as both parties of the conversation are Cingular users. With Verizon you can use M2M as long as both parties are Verizon users AND they are both on the Verizon network. If one of them is roaming on another network, even though they are a Verizon user the minutes used will not be M2M. How good is the network not only for phone usage, but data transfer, internet, etc, etc.

Also, if you're considering a BlackBerry know that there are additional charges on top of your regular monthly charges. I have a BlackBerry and love it, but am considering buying a BlackJack or other pda phone just to lower my monthly bill.

I don't do sales either but just wanted to give you something else to consider. If you want to look into it further feel free to let me know and I can have one of my reps call you. PM me if interested.

I've had them all from one job or another and the best has always been Verizon. My personal phone has always been Verizon and I've been with them for 15 years? The only problems I've had is getting service shut off for non payment :ugh: I can be just about anywhere out in Moab/Price/Swell and have service. I also have an air card in my laptop that works just about everywhere as well.

So my vote is for Verizon...
