Alright, i'd like to know which service provider each of you prefer. i'm going to be choosing one soon, and i don't want to get too screwed when i Herbie Hancock on someone's contract.

This poll is between 6 popular service providers that i can think of, including: Verizon, Alltell, Cingular, Nextel, Sprint, and T-Mobile. (in no particular order)

What i would like to get back from you (in a post) are the pros & cons of the providers you have dealt with before. This should include things such as, hiddens fees and charges, coverage(especially around the southern Utah area), customer service, and anything else that would be for, or against signing with them again.

And last but not least... if any of you sell phone packages or have hook ups, that would be helpful to know as well.;)

well, I currently have Cingular and I am pretty happy with them for the most part. Out here in South Jordan I do have a pretty weak signal though, no where else has it been a problem. I had T-Mobile before and their service was awesome, I never dropped a call with them and I always got any questions answered when I called in (fairly quick too). Cost is about the same. IMO, Nextel sucks...it's pretty sad when you try adn do a direct connect (the walkie talkie feature they have) and you get a network busy error  their coverage is not too great either. IMO, I'd go with a GSM network carrier if you plan to travel at all.

Verizon all the way. I've had Sprint, Nextel and (who TMobile use to be). Verizon is very reliable and there's no roller coaster ride. It's one of those things that always works, and never an issue to call in.

Sprint sucks in the western US. Coverage is very patchy. East coast is great. It's better now that they are using Nextel's network, but still... Customer service was a hoot, too. I'm stuck using Sprint with my work PDA. They thought about going to Verizon, because everyone else is having problems too, but the cost is too great after just buying some 30k PDA's.

Nextel I didn't really have any issues with, as far as customer service, but their coverage was pretty limited.

The other company, who TMobile use to be, sucked flat out on every level. A friend of mine signed up with them right after the name change/merger/whatever and his cell phone died. The replacement was on back order for 2 months. They would NOT give him a loaner, the would NOT let him out of his contract and they would NOT give him ANY credit for the two months. He ended up buying ANOTHER phone, so now he has two...

Oh... My sister and a friend of mine both have AT&T and their phones don't work very well in Utah. They are both from the Sacramento area, where they work great.

Our company uses Sprint and it drops calls ALL of the time. I was w/o signal in Ogden yesterday on I-15 and then went into roaming long distance to make a call:mad2: Our previous AT&T phones were much better than these:rolleyes:

AllTell? Never heard of them.

Verizon has without a doubt the best coverage in Utah, Cingular (AT&T) is now a close second (the gap was much wider a few years ago). I've only ever had one problem with Verizon billing (in the 5 or so years since I switched from AT&T), I was south of Moab (about 4 years ago) and made a series of calls, one of them ended up on a cell tower in CO and I didn't have anything but Utah for my area.... I called and explained to them that 2 miles before that and a mile later the calls were in Utah, they credited me for the one call.

Sprint, Nextel, T Mobil are all I-15 phones.

Edit: btw, that series of calls was made from the cab of my friends truck, there were three of us, me with Verizon, one with AT&T and one with Sprint.... my phone was the only one that worked at all that day.

Not that I've been all over Moab yet, but in the places I have been, my Verizon phone works almost everywhere I have been. I don't recall, but I don't think it worked on Pritchett, though... I know it worked on Strike Ravine a few months ago... My mother called to check in on her grandson. :)

go to Mountain States Wireless. (Verizon) I manage the Idaho stores. good company for price and customer service. I can send ya a phone or you can go get one from my friend. Provided you live in utah. I sell phones to guys on forums quite often. (at least one a week). My "rockcrawler special" is that I give ya all the basic accessories, and I ship for free. I beat or match online prices, and call me anytime with any questions. I have used Verizon all over Moab, and its only beat by the local company. Cellone and SCC.

call me or pm me with any questions ya have

I like cingular. I used to get bad reception with my Motorola phone, but now it works great with the Nokia. The phone is not as cool for features, but it works and that is what matters.

I have Cingular and I'd never go with them again. Dropped calls all day long, no service at my house in South Jordan, etc. :mad2: :mad2: :mad2: :mad2:

I still use Nokia phones with ATT/Cingular. I never have any problems, honestly.

Cingular and Verizon are the best, but we chose Verizon because of the BFE coverage.
The reception sucks in the basement of our house but not on Constrictor.

True... My Verizon phone works just about all over the place out on RS/CON. I used it to call my wife this last weekend to have her bring ball joints to fix Goat's rig on Waynes World....

I've never had a problem with Verizon. Everyone I've ever dealt with from that company has been awesome and easy to work with. Their service is hands down better than Sprint (at least as far as it was 2 years ago).

My only complaint is that I don't like any of their phones. I hate flip phones, but thats about all you get with verizon.

There's a pretty cool little Nokia non-flip camera phone now. 6236i is the model number, I think. ;)

I like my Sprint service......coverage generally switches to Verizon's network down south, but that's okay since there's no fee for roaming on my plan. Service is great around town and such.
