This is funny. After the Neola fire I have had 3 moose 12 elk and 3 bears in my backyard. My wife likes to sing old mcdonald had a farm. I just leave them alone. they do eat my dog food and get into my trash, but hey it was there land first.

Buy some fire works. They hate fire works, or a blunt on a arrow I used a blunt on one that was getting to close to the house. I have not seen him back.

I agree with SRN and Ted Nugen (spelling) if you kill you better eat it because there is starving children in China makeing toys with lead paint

you just leave them alone, untill the dog food isnt good enough and they find a door to push in and raid your kitchen. or the dog starts to look tastier than the dog food. do you have kids that like to play in the back yard. i dont want to even go that direction.

i agree that they belong on that land more than we do. but if they just pass by and leave us alone then we will leave them alone. but if they start to herass us then there will be some herassing right back at them.

nobody here wants to just kill a bear just to kill a bear. the only reason that there is any talk about killing a bear is because they are not just passing by and leaving us alone.

Where's your cabin located? We have a little 10 acre plot about 5 miles off the main road up argyle. Never have seen any bears. At least you have a cabin, I have a springbar tent, oh and a .38 S&W. That would probably traumatize the wife and my 2yr old. I probably won't pass this story along.

well stay in the city. I grew up around this kind of life. In 35 years I have never had a Bear want to come onto my padio. I have motion lights and they run when those come on. If I have one that wants to hang out I use fire crackers on him. The deer, moose and elk are worse. They eat my flowers chase my dog and eat my hay. The bears eat my rasberries and dog food. We dont feed the dogs at night anymore and that cut down on the young bears comeing in.

For all the bear lovers: Humans are the top of the food chain. Deal with it. :D

EDIT: ...and by that I mean, it gives us the absolute right to go where the hell we want, and defend ourselves from native fauna that may or may not want to kill and eat us. I don't cry for the bears. They get too close, TOO FREAKING BAD. Otherwise, live and let live, I don't care if they're wandering around a cabin. That's what they do! But if they'd like to come in, or play with the kids, they are not invited.

when the time comes that fire crackers and lights dont scare them away, and they have there eye on your dog or you or your kids(if any) you wouldnt put a bullet right between its eyes.

twelve years ago we had a bear that would wander across the property. we saw him 11 times in one summer. when he got to close we would scare him away with yells and bells and such. he stopped responding to those and we would fire off a couple rounds into the trees. that worked a couple times but he kept coming back, and soon wasnt afraid of the gun fire any more.

i am all for letting them be. but if i feel my family is in any danger. the bear is going to die before the human is.

From the sounds of it, this is smart trouble making bear. I hope that Fish & Game can trap it and relocate to a much more remote area. Sucks if they have to shoot but worse if it kills a person then it gets shot. May I suggest a Tacoma Trap? Take one Tacoma (sober or drunk), chain to a tree and way for bear to come along. Maybe shoot bear after he nibbles on Tacoma first.:D

No, a fed bear is a dead bear. If it has figured out that people = food, there is no choice but to kill it.

Come on, Joe, get serious! How's a bear gonna eat a truck?!?! For the love of Pete, you're a silly man.

Oh. Were you talking about me? Oh I see. Hey, you ever see those stories on the news, like "man killed a bear with a pocketknife, after he poked out its eyes bare-handed"??? Well that's not me. I enter the wild armed, because I have not sharp teeth or claws what to fight with, mmkay.

Why me, anyway?!?!? Brett's still on the board, sheesh.
