Who has a FCC licence for HAM operation?

As of now I'm thinking a HH might be what I am looking for as a first radio. My thinking is that it will give me a good introduction without being to expensive. Granted the vehicle one is similar price, but I can use the HH with more mobilty

For sure, sounds like your on to something. I keep my HH in the vehicle, its nice to be able to pull it out of the console and use it to spot or at camp when with a group of other ham users.

My first was a Kenwood th77d it was a dual band (2m/70cm) that I loved to death... it got stolen while I lived in st louis...
I would recommend the same three no matter what your getting (mobile/hh/base).
In a HH you might also look at http://www.hamradio.com/detail.cfm?pid=H0-011455 this is what my boss has I believe and he and his wife love them!

When I took my class in California they recommended this radio http://www.hamradio.com/detail.cfm?pid=H0-007323. It works good with really no issues beyond user issues.

Just noticed this site.
KC6NAR, I have a Radio Shack Realistic HTX-202 that I got in 1990 and it still works for com use and on the trail. Without code the tests are very easy, all you have to do is study for a while.

KF7ULV. My pops and I bought a study guide (download) of the web, studied for awhile and took it at L3. My pops scored 100%. I missed two. I utilized the online tests at QRZ(?)

Yup, it's about that easy. If you read the other post (that I put a link to) my 11yo son (now 16) studied a study guide (off the web) on a flight from DC, took online practice tests the next day, then passed the test that night.

Wow. 11. Time flies. He's a lot taller now.
