Who Knows Gears?

Hey, I am going to end up purchasing some gears within the next week or two, but I have no clue where the hell to start. Is there anyone who could spare some time to install or at least help me install some gears just in the rear third. Cause I already have another differential for the front with the gears already installed. Even though I am 16 I can probably poke and prod my dad to have some beer or somthing for someone......But yes I am allowed to buy coke etc. :) Thanks

Nope, that was Mr 4X4. I'm trying to work for Mepco. Gears are damn hard to do and take some specialty tools that I don't have. Micrometers and small torque wrenches for inch/lbs. Some people do it by feel but I'm not good enough to do that. Brandon(SukaB) could do it for you, he's very reasonably priced. I think he could get you gears too if you haven't gotten them yet.

I'd be willing to do it if you could round the tools up somewhere.

I would never reccomend a DIY approach to diff gears. take it to a professional at one of the 4X4 shops and have them do it for you. it costs money but you will not have a steaming pile of burning scrap metal at the end of the day..........

Some guys'll do it for $100 an axle plus parts. That's a screamin deal. Check around. I can prolly find someone. If it's done wrong there are severe consequences. In fact Cyro had some diff related problems lately that cost him his jeep. Nobody wants that. If the gears don't line up properly then you can have noise and wear that can cause major problems.

Well, im just a frickin poor teenager......thats why i was trying to get help from a single person instead of a shop. Anyway, back to the orrignal question. Can anyone do it for relativley free? I know this is asking a lot but I can always provide a wrenching hand. Even two, well maybe not at the same time....
Or another question, whats the cheapest shop?

I seriously doubt the free thing....you better just save your money and wait. It is not as easy as bolting something together. there is a lot of knowhow and finesse that goes into setting up gears.

call around to the shops near you.

A good shop is Rocklogic4x4. They have done excellent work on my Jeep, and guess what.... They are Toyota Friendly!! :D

They gave me a good quote on gears. Give them a call or check out their website.

Wow! where did that come from? gear setups are normally $100 per 3rd. If buying gears too, then we can work with the price a bit. :)

Still, $100 is about the best price you'll ever find.

-Tip for ya chamois. When you forget something you can chose the edit button on the post you last made and add what you want. That reduces padding.
