Why does my heater suck?

The heater in my TJ used to work well, now it doesn't. The engine gets warm. The gauge reads 210, or slightly above at times. The heater blows warm air, if I keep the fan on the two lowest settings. It never blows hot, and if I turn the fan above 2 there's not enough heat to make the air warm. The "temperature" switch is all the way to hot, and if I turn it to cold, the air goes cold, so everything is hooked up and working. It does not blow enough warm air to warm up the inside of the Jeep. It's cold outside, I need my heater!

Same problem in my tj, warm is as good as it gets. I was told to flush the cooling system but that did not help. I would appreciate suggestions as well.
My old tj would almost blow to hot, this one doesn't come close.

Generally this type of problem is caused by one of two things, either the control cable is broken/valve is broken or you have a partially plugged heater core. to fix the first, locate the coolant flow valve for the heater core and manually open it (generally vacuum or cable) disconnect and plug the vacuum line or cable if necessary. for the second remove the heater hose that go to your engine and put a small piece of hose from (that you get from the part store, put your hose in the other end hold it tight and have someone turn the hose on full blast, it will clean out the core, then do it through the other port.

re-connect the coolant lines and run your motor for a while with the heater on. makes sure the core doesn't have water in it that could freeze.

Mine used to be great, it is just the last few days that it stopped working well. My first thought was the thermostat, but if the thermostat was stuck open, the motor wouldn't warm up. I may still try to replace it just because it's the easiest and cheapest possible solution.

Wow I thought it was just my jeep, except I am not even hitting 210, between that and no carpet up front it is f-ing cold in it. :-\

You may have nailed it. It was low. As soon as the boy wakes up we'll go see if it warms up like it used to now. I wonder where my leak is, I haven't noticed any puddles...

Mine was a tad low too, But I know mine leaks up top :redneck:
Will test it later but I still don't see why my gauge is reading just above 100? :-\

Now THAT sounds like a thermostat problem. Or you have no fluid for your gauge to read.

No it had fluids just not full, err well I haven't checked it at running temp though. I will snap a pic of my gauge later I believe it never goes past the first line. :ugh: Just hit 160,000 miles on it last night. :-\

My heater works again! I'll just assume that someone broke into my garage and stole some of my coolant. Nope, I don't think it's leaking (again). Nope. :ugh:
