Why Shackle reverse on CJs

I'm debating on a Shackle reverse. I've heard pros and cons. I really don't know what to do. I plan on not doing it because no one has been able to sway me otherwise. Any thoughts?

That was very informative... and just reinforces my thinking of just doing a spring over on my old cj and leaving the shackles where they are...

I think done properly, you would have no second thoughts. The biggest problem I see is the driveline is too short and comes apart on the trails.

The few people I know who have done it said that the noticed that the front end bounced and hopped around more when trying to get up obstacles, and some of them switched back because of this reason. My Jeep never sees pavement so I just did a spring over with the shackles up front. If it was a daily driver I may have done the reversal, but then again, the Tera high steer knuckle has pretty much eliminated my bump steer.

Its like anything else... you should only do it if you plan to do it right... and a long travel driveline is often part of the conversion (at least in the LC world).

I've owned and wheeled both, there are definitely pro's and cons for each, and as with anything else, there is no right answer for everyone.

Before I hear the obligitory "engineers put them up front for a reason" speach... keep in mind the 79'-85' Toyota trucks/4Runners came SR from the factory and despite your allegiences are known as some of the most capable rigs out there on the trail. Its all about the big picture.

Solid axle Chevs and I think Dodges are also factory shackle reversal.
