The lug patterns are the same. The front shafts will interchange between a TJ and an XJ (I have 99 TJ shafts in my 86 XJ). The rears may be the same length but I would need to measure for sure. Too bad I sold all of my TJ and XJ 35 rear axles or I'd go measure for sure.

NO, not all rear 35's will interchange, most all TJ's have a C Clip axle. The XJ until 96 (i think) does not.

The XJ D35 was non-clip up to 1990 or 1991 if my memory serves me correct.

Sometimes, even in 89 they had C clips....just depends on what Jeep felt like throwing in them.

As far as I know, they are the same axle in XJ's and TJ's, other than the obvious bracketry. So, the width should be the same.

i know that tj axles fit in a yj. so i would asume they would also inter change with an xj. just make sure that if your tj has abs that you pull axles from an xj with abs. if not you'll need to press the sensor rings off the tj axles and put them on the xjs.
