Winch Plate mounting & building bumpers

So I'm working on building my mounting my Winch Plate & I'm looking for some ideas. Of course I want to built it as strong as possible and I'm trying to figure out the best way to achieve this.

I was thinking about capturing the Plate around tubing... Some tube on the sides, and across the front, with the plate sitting within, not on top of, the tube. But the problem with the front part is where the fairlead will sit. I'm now thinking about leaving it opened just where the fairlead will sit, and adding tube to the other areas on the front of the winch plate.

I'm wondering if this will be strong enough & if so... what's the best way to tie in the opened tube? Cut it on an angle & cap it... or???


Any other suggestions?

Here's the front end. The Bumper & winch plate will sit just below the Grill. I plan on cutting the winch plate down to the width of the Radiator Hoop & running 2 pieces of tube up to the bumper. The plate will be welded to those and the bumper across the front.

Never seen welding the plate on top of the tube be a problem... I would just make the front tube continuous and weld the plate to the top. If you really want to do it the way you have pictured you could bend both tubes back, into the winch plate, cut them off flat and weld them to the front of the plate. That way you would have no cut-off/capped ends.

Eh... I'll probably end up welding the plate to the top of the tube and adding to the bumper. It's just so common, I want to do something diffrent!

you could make a bend go over the top of the fairlead? are you using rope or wire? if rope, make your own fairlead out of tube.

Different eh? Mount the winch on a rotating plate at the top of your cage. That way, you can not only winch yourself forward and backwards, but you could right yourself when you roll. You gotta admit, it's different...

nah, it's been done. Pat Gremillion has his mounted right behind his seat. It goes straight up to a heavy pully that is mounted on top of his cage. he can winch from any direction.

i have got ot post a pick of steamy pile

but you have to understand that steamy pile aint a pretty rig......

i have several digi pics of it but they are too big too post avg 180 kb ......

i am also new enough too digital phtography that i have a great deal too learn....

i will see i i can find the camera and take a pic at the lowest res possible to see if it is small enough too post.......

but dont hold me responsible for your reaction to the steamy pile..........
